I know Graham (broad) had one on his evo before he sold it, maybe drop him a pm and ask him. Said good things about it.

Nothing to look at again Paul - that is exactly the same make that I had on my Evo 6.

I've still got it in my workshop although they are make/model specific so no good for the Noble out of the box.

I was the first English owner to have one fitted in an Evo. Very easy to install an setup and great to use.

You still need to use the clutch (you cannot flatshift unless you run a dogbox) but the speed of shift is super-quick. Certain leading Asia-Pacific Rally Championship cars ran them until they fell foul of the homologation rules. The lever needed a definite and positive tug/push and so a powershifter (like the one you have linked to) would not have enough power to move it.(I looked into that too!)

E'mail me if you want any more info - I could adapt one to work on a Noble, I've often thought about it but I think the costs would be too high.

Cheers

Graham

Lee told me last saturday that "you can't have a neutral between every gear" so only auto's masquerading as sequentials are legal on UK roads...

I think that was his point - you need to be able to access neutral from every gear to be legal ... but I'm not an expert and I was rather distracted by something fabulous in the room

Quaife do a sequential 6 speed box that would fit a noble

stronger and a proper sequentiual box

its about 6k - but could be a great mod to a noble

www.quaife.co.uk/products/gearboxes.htm

its the fwd type as already fitted to the noble because of the engine configuration

any takers ?

If it's the same one I looked at months back its good for 280 BHP.
There are sequential boxes that will fit and can handle the torque but have £15K+ for the box alone before you've had the custom bellhousing made and the drive shafts with balancer and the gearchange mechanism and then adapted the chassis for it to fit......
If it was easy someone would have done it by now.

Mike I can't find a 700 hp FWD 6spd sequential box on their site anywhere. Where did you see it?

Aren't gearboxes rated for Torque, not power?

FWIW I remember speaking to Quaiffe about their gear sets and they didn't do anything that improved massively on the limits of the standard stuff.

When I looked into this a while back there wasn't a great solution for palatable money. All the people selling FWD gearboxes were expecting, not unnaturally, for their kit to be used in a FWD car. You start saying 400ft/lbs+ and they start laughing saying sure, no problem, you'll never get that power down anyway. State it's RWD with loads of grip they go all quiet and start scratching their chins....

Have you looked at Hewland gearboxes? Still very expensive though!

paul - you need to ring them and discuss it with them
they can build you pretty much anything you want

the 6 speed box in the noble was fitted to the focus st170

with the correct bearings fitted and the gears and final drive shot peened and polished it could take a LOT more power than it currently does

for example I have a BC type gearbox that was fitted to a FWD ford - after destroying several gearboxes I got one developed that now reliably takes over 400 bhp - it was rated at 130 bhp originally

what actually breaks in the gearbox - is it the diff or the gears / bearings themselves ?

I'm sure gearboxes are rated on torque though, not power? A gearbox to deploy 800bhp would be different if that was 800lb/ft at 5.5k rpm (or whatever the exact calculation is) or 300lb/ft at 18000 rpm as in an F1 car.
