Not mine, looks cheap though. Can't see why it was written off.

Allot of the time its not just the car damage that is taken into consideration, if the repair is going to take along time (as can with a Trevor) then car hire costs are added into the deal and we all know that when its an insurance job then the repairers and the car hire people put in as big a bid as they think they can and this ends up righting off on 03 plate T350 with minimal damage! I know I used to work at such a place, some of the write-off’s were stupid!!
I think something strange is happening in the insurance world. I have had a similar situtaion with my Tuscan. Cost of repair was far less than the £28K the insurance company was going to give me even taking into account a fair salvage price of £5K.
The reason was the insurance company - Chaucer in my situation have a contract with Universal Salvage that says Universal have to give them something in excess of 50% of the value of the car pre accident!! (Got this from someone in Universal who was going to share the figures with me). Therefore the insurance was using a figure of in excess of £15K to do their sums. All starts to make sense.
As love car (not forseeing any reason to sell even if upgrade (in fortunate position)) and really wanted mine back got broker involved who informed me insurance co. not playing by book - not that they ever do. To determine if a car is write off or not they have to use open market salvage value not their false market value. Outcome seems to be cars that should not be written off are being written off, with somebody somewhere in the chain making a tidy something for themselves. In my example I would receive £28K to buy another car not bad but as a total loss insurance premiums rocket and never quite enough for the car that you find that really makes grade, insurance reduce their liability by 15K+ even though they have had premiums from me for a liability valued at £30K, salvage yard could lose out if it is a wreck but more often than not it is not, so they make a quick £5K on their investment, new buyer happy got car otherwise could not afford. However what happens if damage is little bit more than the buyer is made aware of, as was happening in my case - new chassis required, car repaired by one garage (TVR Central) first who missed chassis damage. When got car back drove like a dog and insisted on second opinion (Gatwick TVR) that's when chassis damage found. Thing is from outside car looks fine, unsuspecting soul would not know, especially non TVR driver, salvage yard has to make return on their potential loss - another death trap on the road.
My car is now going to be rebuilt with new chassis by gatwick tvr not written off. May have reduced in value but as already said luckily not an issue to me and I can sleep better at night knowing there is one less accident waiting to happen to somebody.
BTW - my accident was a car jacking, I was attacked with hammers and after being belted around the head with a couple and splitting head open managed to fire her up a flee for life, unfortunately lost control and crashed at approx 50mph - didn't want you to think I was a totally crap driver.

Jesus! Glad you were OK (of sorts) where/when did this happen? Did the police catch them?
Thanks for asking I'm now fully recovered this all happened last June (TVR Central took till 23 December to return car to me - however I do spend half my time in LA so was not chasing them until my return on 17 dec was surprised car was still not ready) shook me up more trhan I thought it would at time. Happened just off lancaster gate in London - gloucester terrace to be precise. They were all caught and this month pleaded guilty to 67 counts of robbery and violence in a two month period they will be sentenced in May - police are hoping they will get 10 years.
Happened 12.30 at night dropping friend off home after dinner roof on. Car pulled along side four white guys inside asking for directions. They drove away down to bottom of road and stopped switching off lights. I decided to reverse other way knew something was up, could not reverse out into main road because of traffic as soon as gap went to pull out. They then came tearing round corner having goned round block and jammed me in. Instantly all four jumped out with hammers and smashed in both side windows hitting myself and pasdsenger around the head. Gave them rolex hoping that was all they wanted but didn't stop them. Finally managed to start car and floored swerving out of way of their car (stolen one), lost total control 50yards up road. Now I was doing about 50 when hit parked cars as was in first gear and red change light was on overdrive, they don't quite do 60 in first gear. That was that. In hindsight still glad did what did i.e. not get out of car, think if we had wse would have been bludgeoned to death they were so violent.
Anyway fully recovered and looks like my battle with insurance is coming to a close so just have to wait now for car to be rebuilt - will take 2+ months. Shame because it means I am going to miss this years gumball and what an adventure it promises to be this year. Around theworld in 8 days. still got 30 days though to sort out replacement car see what happens.

Jeez that is Scarey, Glad you recovered ok and the car is nearly sorted out after that. Unfortunatly they do take a fair time to be rebuilt due to the time it takes to do the Fibre Glass work and letting it cure propelyetc etc. Took em 6 months to repair mine(mostly bodywork) and have heard that sort of time knocking about on others too.
Good luck.
Where you on the gumball last year?

Yes & No, entered and paid but due to work had to bail out - lost the entrance fee of £8,000 shame it was a nice trip last year. Year before went to Morocco, where car hit inbetween 185 and 190 according to clock with more in her but got a funny wiff of oil so knocked it back to 170mph. Ended up breaking down in middle of nowhere due to clutch failure - seals. I think that was what oil smell was. Anyway I think the tuscan's good for 200 according to clock. Before you ask mines a Dec 2001 4.0 Red Rose. It was great especially on thodse sandy roads like driving on ice. Can say though car really feels sorted at 160, much better than it is at 120 - 140.
