Say I was thinking of selling my 911 and getting a M12

just seen the prices of the M12's and would consider trading my 911 for one.

I use my 911 everyday and its never let me down, fantastic all rounder, I like the more focussed M12 and was wondering what I should look out for if I was to make the plunge, are there any common issues? anything I should avoid?

what are they like as an everyday driver? can you live with them day to day ?

Gary, I use my M12 3R every day and have put 20,000 miles on in two years. It's never left me at the side of the road. However, I'm sure what kind of bills you had with the 911 but I've spent close to £6000 keeping mine in shape.

thanks for the feedback, my 911 has cost me next to nothing I guess, can you get a extended warranty from noble for peace of mind? if so how much.

Im actually bored of motorbikes in the sense that I can ride my ducati on the redline round the country lanes now and its failing to impress, I need a new toy and since ive had motorbikes now for 18 years and had a go on most models around I only got my car licence a year ago (my 911 is my first car) ive still got the car buzz.

Dealer's do third party ones if you want that piece of mind, but the stories of big bills get less as more cars are produced and seem to be getting less as the cars get older.

Most of the things that cause bills have been changed/modified over the last 4 years since launch which means the previous owners will have done most of the changes. These are hand-built low volume cars so it is unlikely to be of "tutonic" quality, but then a wander over to the Porsche forum generally finds a few horror stories.

Beset best is to employ the services of someone like Matt Faulks (mattfp on here) or get a dealer to give it the once over, and ensure you talk at length with the current owner. If you get an enthusiastic owner who will show you the bills and tell you about the car you'll get a good idea if it's a "good'un".

Alternatively just buy through a dealer with a decent warranty.

I did just what you are thinking of last August :-)

It took me lees than half a mile to realise my 996 was history, although I wasn't impressed until I got in the drivers seat.

To be frank no matter what anyone tells you the build quality isn't a patch on porsche and there are cranky details all over which you will find annoying, BUT , you only ever think of these things when you are not driving it - once you are driving all that matters are dynamics of the car and they really are fantastic.

I drive mine 80 miles a day and it isn't too difficult to live with considering what you get in return, but the 911 would do it more comfortably and you would be able to hear the traffic news :-)

Why would you want to do that - get TomTom sat nav with traffic and you can just listen to the engine

Hi 350 plus .I wonder if you could help please. I am looking to buy either a Noble 3R or a porka C4S but not sure yet. You said you moved from the porka to the Noble. What sort of problems have you had with your Noble so far.Whats the handling like in the Noble compared to the porsche, is there much in it. How big a difference is there in speed terms?

Hi Steedy,

Problems with the Noble so far amount to a blown ecu right after I got it, which i think was probably caused by clumsy jump starting by previous owner who didn't use it very often and then just routine maintenance. In comparison my C4 996 blew the header tank which is pretty common as you will know and then just routine maintenance.

I can't say my C4 handled badly, but by comparison the Noble is incredibly light and agile - hard to describe really but what I normally settle for is that the Noble made my 996 feel like a mondeo. The flat cornering is truly in another league.


As for speed, the acceleration figures speak for themselves, but the kick from the turbos is incredible and the Noble puts you into big bike territory which is pretty respectable by anyone's standards. Think of it as a big kart with an enormous engine and you will pretty much be there.

The only thing to do is test both cars and see for yourself - what you choose is dependent on your criteria of course but you will be in no doubt as to the fact that the are very different cars.
