Ok I am considering one of the two, any opinions on the pros and cons of each. Personally I prefer the styling of the F355 but as second hand 360's are almost the same price surely it is more sensible to go with the newer 360.

Thanks to those who reply

What an awful quandry for you, Sir!

The F355 is quite the most exquisite shape but the newer car has more prescence 'in the metal.'

The F360 is also built to near Teutonic standards so that's a big plus too (although the F355 represented a seismic shift in this respect also, at the time).

Clarkson and others have mentioned 'on the limit jitters' but I'm sure that's b*ll*cks - the simple truth is that the F360 feels properly quick and in my (limited) experience, nicely planted considering the breed.

And the sound? See Kevin 456, Manu & Co - eulogies abound and I can but nod in sycophantic clamour -nothing, absolutely nothing, compares to a full bore blat from the pipes of an F360.

So the choice is difficult and emotional but the decision for me, would be simple.

Good hunting and as if it needed saying, enjoy!

First off, either way, you win. So it doesn't matter that *much* which you get, as long as you pay the right price. Speak to Ajay@ScuderiaSystems for some details, he's active in the market so knows the prices and trends like the back of his hand.

So, it means get the one which really makes you feel good. Either way, you will probably think it was better to get the one you didn't . Some points to help out though:

360:
* Newer design.
* Faster, especially from low revs it will rinse a 355 from start situations. Should be more stable than a 355 at high speed due to better aerodynamics. Has TC, 355 doesn't. Never thought it really essential on 355, but recently in rain I've thought twice after being sideways in Finchley Road Swiss Cottage, luckily no one needed to take evasive action.
* More "lively" handling, which can double as a bad thing too. Should be loads of fun to throw around.
* Should prove more reliable.
* Driving position and view is much improved over the 355. The pedal offset in the 355 can be annoying if you are relatively tall (i'm not )

355 Spider:
* Convertible. Don't underestimate what pleasure this can be. Its such a joy even with the roof up, as you can hear the engine more.
* Engine sounds much better than 360, although that can be resolved on the 360 with a tubi. Won't sound as good as a 355 when both maxed on tubi equip, but nonetheless becomes closer.
* The handling is safer IMO. The chassis can cope easily with the power and torque available. Its less lively, but feels heavier and more plantable. I feel more reassured in the 355 personally, but the 360 will ultimately be more fun. The better a driver you are, the more you will probably enjoy the 360.

In terms of looks, these are subjective arguments and everyone will have an opinion for themselves. The 355 IMO is a "prettier" car, and the 360 is an awesome road weapon. Speeding up behind you, it looks like a missile about to hit its target. I wouldn't like to say which is better looking. What I can say is that the 360 is a newer looking car.

I *had* to have the 355 first: 1) I did not have the ready cash to get a 360 (although I did consider LHD or finance) 2) I wanted the car for the sound, not just its abilities or looks. Although you will be impressed with both qualities on both cars.

Either way, it will be a fantastic event, and I really honestly believe you will not regret it. Not one bit.

At thats even before mentioning the amazing people (read nutters!!) that you will meet.

Happy New Year

Agree with Ninja- you won't lose either way, and it's going to be down to which one you prefer the look of and/or how it drives. Mind you, if you're a poser and looking for unsolicited offers of sex on the bonnet, you should choose the spider

The price points do overlap, you're right, but not by much; it's the top of the scale for the spider, and the bottom for the 360, unless the latter is LHD. Rough and ready ranges from the current Top Marques, and a mix of dealer & private:

LHD 355 spider 45-53K (av. about 50K)
RHD 355 spider 55-79K (av. about 66K)
LHD 360 Modena 60-69K (av. about 68K)
RHD 360 Modena 78-104K (av. about 94K)

If it were me, I'd probably go with the 355, mainly because of the sound, which, in stock guise, still has the edge on a 360 with a Tubi IMO. An unsilenced 355 is a wondrous thing. It may well be my next Ferrari.

Whatever, you're going to have a great time choosing .

I'd just like to point out that I have received no offers of unsolicited sex. (the other half is watching).

That's funny' cos Ninja MAKES OFFERS of unsolicited sex in HIS spider....

But seriously - I belive the difference between the F355 and the 360 is the difference between sports car and WEAPON - the 355 is fabulous to chuck around whilst the 360 (in the right hands) just destroys roads - the downside being it is less forgiving.
In stock guise the 355 sounds lovely whilst the 360 sounds like a whiny motorbike... This is the only thing in which the F355 has a clear cut advantage.
The 355 is also prettier but doesn't (prolly by virtue of it's size) have quite the presence of the the larger meatier 360.. no real winner here then either.

The 360 is more intense and the 355 more emotional if you know what I mean... The choice is yours. The Spider configuration really lets you hear that V8 too and on a warm summer evening it just unbeatable....

No easy answer.

Never had offers either.... Kevin, you were not out of our sight for that long in my spider, you were made such an offer in that short time???

Mind you, its clear where Max gets his talent from

I don't think these cars are any good for pulling, well thats my excuse anyway, otherwise I'll have to admit to being a right ugly barsteward
