I seem to have something knocking around in the fuel tank. Only notice it as I pull off slowly or when I drop off the drive.

Checked it was not not engine or transmission related by pushing the car back and forth.

Just wondering if this something any of you have come across, and if so is it an easy fix?

Any help or advice would be most appreiciated,

Lloyd

This is a new one on me! I suppose the obvious is something dropped down the filler neck at some point! Maybe see if the adjuster screw at the base of the locking cap is still where it should be?!

Hey Lloyd,

I'd be really surprised if the noise was something in the tank.

Unless you've left it open and parked somewhere where some complete could have dropped something in it ?

It may well be somthing loose behind the panel along side the tank where the side pod intake goes in (where the fuel filter and pump are) might be worth whipping the panel off and having a rummage around in there.

Lloyd, another thought - does your fuel gauge work properly - the flaot inside the tank may have become loose or disconnected?!

You could be hearing the front turbo heat shield rattling either because the bracket is broken or because it needs some technical adjustment (i.e. bending it up a bit until the knocking noise goes away).

Thanks for all your suggestions,

I am quite sure it is not the heat shield as it definatley from somewhere around the fuel tank!! The noise continues for a while even after i stop rocking the car back and forth.

The fuel gauge seems to work fine, though it does go down a bit quick for my liking!!

Obes, How do I remove the side panel to have a look around the tank??

Many thanks,
Lloyd

Some tanks arrived from SA full of gubbins having not been properly cleaned post welding. Could be that. Also there's an internal baffle - ? come loose?

My turbo heat shield fell off after the first few months. Never bothered to put it back.
