Hi
I have many Autocar magazines but not the one for the BMW M5 E39. After looking around the web I cannot find it anywhere. If someone has the issue with it (maybe 20.1.99 or 20.6.99) could they post a link to it or scan it then email it to me ?

Hi Colin,

Haven't got the article, but the Road Test yearbook from a couple of weeks ago had a brief section about the M5 in it. It was from the original test with the LHD Imola Red M5.

I've got a 2000 E39 M5 , and if you have any questions please feel free to mail me (MattOz@sun.com)

Cheers
Matt

Just two questions, does the UK M5 have split/fold rear seats like the US version. Also how do you rate the standard stereo, assuming you dont have the upgrade ?

Colin,

My M5 doesn't have split/fold rear seats. I think it might be an option, but not sure.

I don't have the standard stereo - mine's the DSP version - but I can say that I think it's fantastic, if a little too bassy, but i've read lots of peoples' opinions on the web who seem to slate it. Each to their own, obviously; perhaps it can be outclassed by a similarly priced aftermarket ICE installation .

What I can say is that it p*sses all over the system in the Cerb ...

My M5 doesn't have a split rear seat either - I don't think it was/is an option in the UK. I can't comment on the stereo either - I have the DSP version too.

Ditto, no rear seat split 2001/MY

It is an import "to UK spec" I have the non-DSP stereo, but 10 speakers & CD....not sure how that fits with what you have/looking for.

It's not great, but I'm not a car hi-fi nut and as long as I can get radio (tick) and play the CD's, it's fine.

My Jan 2001 M5 DOES have split fold rear seats. It also has the load through facility, so I can put long loads in - I have carried doors and all sorts in the car! Makes it very practical.

Admittedly, the load height suffers because of the subwoofers (part of the DSP stereo) - but still pretty darn good!

Hmmm, seems some do and others dont have split fold seats. I will call a dealer and find out if it is an option or age/spec related.
