That time of year again when my little trickle is due for renewal on the old car insurance (something I hate). After 3 days of ringing around the best deal I got was......A Plan Insurance tel no 01635 874646 - got the name and no from Sprint. I paid £459 (ok i'm old but young at heart).

Give them a ring I spoke to Richard who drives a Seat Leon Cupra R 225 (isn't that a Golf in disguise) he was rather punchy when i mentioned this, he he he

Just to let everybody know that the guys at A-Plan lobbed 30%+ off the quote I got for renewal from Norwich Union. Spending a nickel on the calling them is a really good idea

I am currently with A Manning who have been excellent, but do A Plan cover you in Europe for long periods as my current policy does?

Having lost my Chim in an accident I just want to say that I was insured with Norwich Union and they were exemplary in how they dealt with the write off. In about 3 weeks I had a cheque.

A couple of friends have had problems of late with their cars. One was trashed on the street, seriously damaged, and they had gone with the cheapest quote with an almost unknown insurer and they are still waiting for the company to sort out the insurance some 8 weeks later.

I'm not advocating going for the most expensive but just letting you know my experience. My wife needed to insure her car recently, moved from a company car, and she went with Norwich on the basis of my experience. It was 100 quid more expensive but if they deal with any accident as well as mine it will be 100 quid well spent.

Out of interest have others had better response to claims from the "big names" than the smaller less well known insurance companies?

Before you ask I am not affiliated with Norwich Union in any way I work in Biotech.

Try Hagerty, call Darren 01327 856 002
Some pretty good deals if you fully insure another car as well as your P&J

Just spoke to A Plan myself and they have cut my premium renewal quote by 30% as well. No track day cover - which is what is still making me torn between them and A Manning - but a substantial decrease. Their motor policies are through Groupama if memory serves.

Anyone any experience of them - especially in claiming??

Just renewed mine with Sunninghill. I rang A Plan and got a cheeper quote but A Plan don't do trackday cover. Rang Sunninghill and asked them to match the A Plan quote and they bettered it and I still have trackday cover. Result

Try - rhclassicinsurance.co.uk
Just saved a further £70 Cost: £252, yes £252... This include breakdown recovery, £50 excess windscreen, £150 excess on fire and theft etc. 90 days European cover. However, this is for an S3 with no garage and a limited private mileage of £5000. - Still pretty good in my opinion!
Can anybody beat this????
As for 'A plan' they wanted £500 - different league!

I have just gotten an excellent quote from Darren at Hagerty's, which was £405 on a classic policy. This will be in full effect once i am 25 next week. The best part means I can now take my NCB and put it on another car.

I just saved £399 by going to direct line from classic line, with 10,000 miles a year instead of 5,000 miles.

Mr Moose - your company are bleedin' brilliant. Just spoke to Claire and she sorted out a quote which under half of my current premium and miles better than the renewal quote from my current insurers who wanted to wildly increase my premium for no apparent reason....

Another vote here for Heritage - £110 less than Norwich union and they throw in track day cover ! Most of the specialist TVR insurers still wanted silly money for me as my baby lives on the drive and I only have 3 years No claims. Even though the claim against me was a no fault one for a scratch incurred in a car park on a company car. Seems the general outlook is that its a claim, regardless of who was at fault, or the fact that the damage was only about £250. Wishing now Id just stumped up the £250 and had it repaired myself. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I'll give A-Plan the thumbs up.
Got home last night to find my first speeding fine on the doorstep and i've not even picked the Chim up yet.
Anyway, just spoke to them asking how much the premium was going to increase with the SP30 on my licence and there's no increase
Guess there's so many people out there with points that 3 doesn't make any diference.

As for getting done for 82 in a 70, that's another matter

A-Plan quoted me £435 for 6000 miles, and my renewal with Peart came today at £523 for only 5000 miles (can't offer more) which is always tight! Just need to check cover is as good (I don't track) and you can guess where I'm going.
