Not sure whether it is going to be a write off or not as the cost of the accident damage is likely to be close to the value of the car (its a 98 4ltr).

Just wondered if anyone else had a big shunt and then be able to reinsure?

A few years ago i 'lost' a Griffith 500 on a duel carrigeway, no injuries other than a total loss insurance claim. The Griffith was insured with Footman James on a Classic policy (around £500 pa) and paid out for the full value without any problems, they realy were excellant and gave me all the support i needed. A couple of months later when i bought the Chimaera, i tried to get it added onto the original policy but as it's a 97, it couldn't be covered on the classic policy. They then quoted me £3k+ for similar cover on a limited milage policy (no hard feelings, you're quite a risk!).

I managed to get similar cover from Peart for the Chimaera for around £1,5k, which has now fallen to around £800.

Don't be under any illusion that after a 'single vehicle' type accident in a TVR, the insurance companies will look at you as a high risk, but you can get cover, and Peart very understanding and i'd recommend them to anybody.

Sorry to hear about your loss Noodle.

I wrote off my first Griff 18 months ago almost 11months into ownership of a tiv. It was a total loss and no third party to claim off, The insurers (A.Manning) paid out in full and re-insured me a month later for another Griff. My premiums only went up £80 at renewal.

I guess not all insurers think alike,, you'll just have to ask the broker whether he can see a problem with insuring you for another TVR.
Good luck and lets hope its not a total loss claim - Talk to the repairers about using 2nd hand or refurbished parts to keep the estimate down if you want to keep the car.

Editted to add that i am paying £600 with that claim and i'm insured for business use limited to 8k mileage

will feel really guilty if its is a write off, wudnt give a shit if it was some euro box but it will be a genuine shame if I kill one of these.

Fair play to the missus though we walked away from the crash and 5 minutes later when I said that wud probably be our one and only TVR she got really pissed off and announced that she wanted a replacement!

I crashed my Cobra 2 years ago, £10500 of own damage, single vehicle accident. That was insured through Footman James, excellent service
Got it rebodied, sold it, and bought the Chim. Insured it with Sharp Ins,very helpfull
www.sharpinsurance.co.uk. Very reasonable £700 odd in view of the claim and this is my 1st TVR. Also beat all other quotes on my 406 as well.

Alex

Sorry to hear of your misfortune - but chin up mate!
It's only a car and all that.......

I had a bit of a 'moment' last year, and I was in the same boat as you...it being touch and go as to whether the repair would exceed the write-off value (mine needed a new chassis!).

To cut a long story short - finally got my P&J back, and the insurance only went up by about £100 (from £800 to £900 ish).

The repair cost about £15000 BTW......

This is my first TVR 36years limited claims no accidents in the last 5 years no points, AON charged £380 on my 4.0 HC Chim, most would not touch me because i had not had a fast car in the last 5 years. I rang around many and it was £800 if they would cover me.
So AON very good so far and underwritten by Royal Sun Alliance.
I got there number off a good mate with an MR2 Turbo Import and his was a great price also.

Ashbourne Insurance tel 08704 60 80 60, they were not the cheapest Mannings wanted £550 but mileage limited to 5k if I went upto 7k they wanted about £40 more then Ashbournes.

Good luck

I caused £11k damage to a £13k Celica a good few years ago and didn't see an appreciable hike in premiums.

It was a single-vehicle accident too, so unquestionably my fault. I had protected NCB, but even so I expected a big loading for a total loss and was pleasantly suprised not to see it.

Cheers, I'll give them a try.

I have tried Mannings they wanted over £850 for 5000 miles.

So far the cheapest is Adrian Flux at around £700.

I killed a pre-cat Griff last January, which was on a classic policy (over 10 yrs old, limited mileage etc) with Classicline - I was paying about £350-400 pa, claimed (single car accident - my fault no question) and was paid out agreed value in full. Still with them for the same continuing policy on my Merc SL - annual premium...

... £350
If you can get classic insurance its well worth it.

Unfortunaley I dont have the benefit of off road parking etc that will allow for classic insurance.

Have a read of this - might be worth a go phoning round - I was surprised I could get insurance on anything more powerful than a wheelbarrow after my little 'off'. Best of luck
