Anyone running race gas?

Any of you guys running race gas at track days? After going to a track day and smelling race gas everywhere, I couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to run on race gas with open exhaust. That would really be sweet with an Ultima....

Assuming your engine runs fine on normal fuel, just filling it up with race gas alone wont make much difference.
If you had a forced induction engine, you would be able to crank the boost up without detonation.

You may be able to tighten up the timing a little with high octane. But, the gains would probably be not much better than if you had a dyno tune using your local "Super" (91-94 octane) pump gas. If you have cats, you won't want to use high octane on a regular basis; they tend to fry.

That said, the track owners love it when you buy their regular fuel too. If you go to the track with a club, the club will encourage such purchases because it endears the club to the track owners...especially at the extra $$$ per gallon.

I think I'm just addicted to the smell of that stuff! No point in using it I suppose. Even with my 10.5:1 compression motor. They had super unleaded at the track but it was a dollar more a gallon! I ended up going down the street and picking up a couple of 5 gallon jugs and bringing it in. My track won't let you transport more than 5 gallons at a time I don't think.

I have heard that there's a company making fuel additives to make the exhaust oder something other than burnt fuel. Maybe you could perfect the "high-octane" smell.
