Hi,
Looking for a 2500M, I'm located in Cheshire, and will consider anything from a total wreck to concours.
Many thanks
Any reason that you are after a 2500M and not a 3000M or 1600M?
Ian
Yes, the 2500M is triumph based, i beleive the others use ford engines, boxes and diffs. please correct me if i'm wrong.

No offence, but why would you want the 2500 when the 3000 has more torque and is far more robust without the overheating problems. By the way yes, I have owned a car with a Triumph 2.5 in, give me the Ford any day.
No offence taken at all, I am still a member of TSSC (triumph sports six club) and as i'm currently triumph-less it is something that loosely slots into both worlds, Power/torque is not an issue, as is reliability "my other Tiv is a Cerb". Also as the Mrs only sits behind the wheel of the Cerb when she helps to clean it, a 2500 is a not too powerful option.
So short of getting a TR6, the 2500 is a good option, especially as it isn't going to be driven an awfull lot.

Very few of these stayed in the UK having owned 59 TVR's only one of was a 2500M and having worked on them for 20 years I've only seen 1 other in the flesh...that said I have never seen one in the later spec. when the cars were well sorted (78/81) The 2500 needs all the usual TLC and more with a crank that can push it's self out the engine (as mine did) along with all the TVR oddbits....The best cars are the Taimar's (once they have Ford lift style handles) so practical, 3000M's (once they get Taimar style engine bay and heater systems) tightest, and any 3000's (as they sort of only came in the latest spec anyway) and they are the most desirable, not forgetting 1600M's that can be turned into screaming mad silly things (lightest) and any of the Turbo's (quietest and quickest by far).
In MY humble Opinion.

Adrian, there are lots of 2500M's in UK and a fair few 2500 Vixens. I have personally had over 40 through my hands and besides that if Phil wants a Triumph engined car and he is obviously familiar with the engine then he wants a Triumph engined car. They can be tuned (if you have the money) to over 250 bhp and all the overheating and handling problems are sortable. They are I must say not my personal favourites but there are many Triumph enthusiasts who wouldn't have anything else. sTeVeR
adrian,
I appreciate your help and adviso's regarding the more versatile 3ltr and 1.6 ford based options, but it really has to be triumph based. I know there can be issues with the 2.5 but as Steve has stated these are all mainly sortable. Regarding tuning i very much doubt the car will ever see over 3.5K revs with the Mrs driving, and to be honest if driving in convoy with other triumphs i doubt i would give it any beans. We are fortunate that this would be our fourth car and no contest for a hoon against taking the Cerb which is well tuned and set-up nearly weekly by Ian @ Middlewich, it will be purely a plodding classic for us to enjoy at shows and on classic runs.
I have seen the piccys of the raspberry one and it is very nice, but tbh at nearly £6K it is a lot of money for a colour we don't like (not trying to be too picky) add another 1.5-2K for a colour change and it becomes a very expensive choice. Not that any TiV should be an excuse for financial reasoning but common sense has to prevail (sometimes).
Thanks for everyone's input thus far and in the event something turns up please feel free to drop me an email thru my profile.

Have a look at my profile - the alternative to Ford or Triumph power. I can't take the credit for the makeover, but I can take the credit for the responsibility of keeping it going. Still a few minor jobs to be sorted out like a 12v socket to plug the Satnav into for Le Mans.....
Lovely M mate, a nice lump too, are you going to Classic LM or 24hr. I'm going Classic with some looneys from the Triumph club, about 18 cars in all with 2 tivs as support vehicles.
once we've got them there, me n Griff 4.0 are off down the riveria and across the pyranees into espania for a lark for a week.

I'm glad I said IMHO....The view point I was coming from was that they were never made in THE spec that me, myself, I, would want, having had all the TVR,s I've had AND the customer cars that I've driven, rectified...tried to rectify....TVR's as they do now evolve, and as with the current cars the last ones built are, and back then, were the best that factory could produce..Again IMHO the 2500M never got there, they stopped making them during '77 and the late reg. cars get in on a '78 plate. BUT the cars got better and this is were I was coming from...A LOT better not just the engine, the straight Triumph 6 does it for me in the sound stakes, but I would never ask my wife to drive an M series with the early pedal box. (Steve, you'll know NOW that I really am being picky). I work these every day and I bought a full service set for the TR6 engine to put on the shelf, this included a full gasket set olong with lots of parts that I had evolved into owning that were special to the 2500M (as I then owned a concours 2500M) thinking...If you work on these cars your sure to need the service parts at sometime, I'm still waiting. (I feel an ebay day coming.. 2 2500M down pipe 2 intermediate pipes and 2 twin tail pipes NOS etc.). The last time I saw a Vixen 2500 was Goodwood was it '84 or '85 I should get out more..."hell no" I see enough of these damn things without going to look for them!
Good luck with your quest.
