Anyone got any Idea how to do this?

I've looked at the haynes manual but it makes it about as clear a murky water.

Cheers
Stuart!

The standard CVH engine should have hydraulic lifters and do not require manual adjustment. The only CVH, (to my limited knowledge) fitted with manual adjustable lifters was the RS1600i engine which had them for the purpose of motorsport where the engine could be made to rev to 9000 rpm + without having anti-pump problems. The RS1600i engine can usually be identified by the rocker cover which should have cooling fins and the word 'MOTORSPORT' embossed into it.

You may need to replace the cam shaft and lifters if it's that bad, or it may just be that you have sludge blocking the holes in the lifters which need unblocking for them to work properly. Try Winns engine flush first, then if this doesn't work visually check the lifters, and finally check the camshaft for heavy wear.

If theyre continually clattering, youll have to replace the camshaft, the followers(hydros) and the rockers.
You can get all of the required components as a kit.
Sounds like a perfect opportunity to do some modifying to me.
Upgraded cam for instance?
Dont fight it, you know you want to!

Must...fight...urge...aaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Oh B*ll*ks. Now you've gone and done it. All I can say is am I glad I don't make huge amounts of money or I would have a Kent Fast Road cam in the thing.

Hhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, fast road cam, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

It has to be the cam thinking about it. The oil is correct and is changed every 6000 miles, when I replaced the rocker cover gasket I had a look at the rockers and they seemed pretty clean, about as dirty as expected and no clogging anywhere around them but the noise was as bad as ever. Hmmmm, now where did I put that Burton Power Catalogue...

Stuff that.

£500 for a Fast Road Cam kit! Not a chance!

+ Another £150+ for uprated Discs and Pads then another £x for Braided hoses and then having them fitted and I'm getting close to £1000.

The Cars only worth £600!

But on the other hand....more power, better cam shaft, more power...power...power...power...power...power. DOH!

CVH22 cam which is fairly mild but okay for standard carbs and a bit of porting and should give up to about 125bhp tops. Anything more wild and the engine will need a fair chunk of cash to make it work without breaking it!

Erm, I've had to E-mail BP in Kent about this one as it has confused me immensly over the last 10 months.
My car has a carb, but my car is also Injection
Turns out it uses the Weber CFi system, which is a carb and injection combined, how it works I have no idea, and I have no wish to know the ins and out, what I do know is that the air filtration system is that of a Carb, and the Intake Manifold has features of an Injection engine.
I spoke to BP about this a few months ago and they said a Fast Road Cam Kit for it, due to the nature of the engine was roughly £500.

Whoever invented the car needs to be shot

Sounds like a good opportunity to get a carb & manifold from an XR2 / XR3 down at the breakers yard to me, then you can do what you like! (If you do go down this road, try and get the manual second choke carb as opposed to the vacuum operated second choke carb as the manual one responds quicker to acceleration). I don't know if it's of any use to you, but I have a standard vacuum carb / manifold and air filter box kicking around in the back of the garage which will bolt straight on to the CVH as it came off a 1988 XR2 1.6. You can have it for £20 + postage if you want......

Ahh the Weber Cfi system!
Worked on these aplenty before.
Its got basically the looks of a carb, but its got a single central mount injector, throttle plate, idle stepper motor and air temp sensor built in, oh and a pressure regulator set to 2.4-2.6 bar....(yawn)
Fairly decent system but suffers from the same fuel distribution problems and fuel puddling/heating as a carb.
Get weber throttle bodies (slide throttles from a BDA would be nice!) and the weber alpha management system.
Do the Rs2000head onto the CVH block conversion and et voila!
16 valver and bout 170-190 bhp....nuff 4 ya?

Sounds like an easy enough thing to do. Can I think about it. What with soaring insurance costs et al...

OK, Jas, it's a deal. You should have mail some point in the next three days

Edited to add the smileys as without them the humour in the post is lost completely

Stu, have you still got the tappety problem ? If so, mail me offline and I'll shed some light on it. Had the same problem with an old XR2 in my boy racer days. Not that expensive to sort....
