Chim - valve clatter on start-up

My new 4.6 (with an H404) has started clattering for a moment or two on start-up, especially from cold. As this has worsened after changing from Mobil 0-40 to Magnatec, I'm assuming it's 'just'(?) the lifters pumping up and hopefully harmless, and that the 'worsening' is due to the different oil viscosities? Any comments?

How old is the H404 and it's lifters?It does sound like hopefully theyre just dirty/partially blocked,as this often gets worse if you change to thicker oil.I really would use something better than Magnatec to be honest(i use silkolene pro 's' 10w50 for example).It might be worth trying some hydraulic valve lifter treatment(cleaner),i've had good results on the wifes car with this.I run a H404 and never get any clatter,so something isn't quite right,but it does sound minimal hopefully,if it only happens when on start up.

The cam and lifters have done maybe 6k miles max, as has the motor.

I think i'd be inclined to get the engine checked out if it were me.I wouldn't expect to get those symptoms at that mileage,from what is effectively 'new'.It could be something like a pre-load issue,starting to arise?But i'm certainly not qualified to say.My H404 and lifters have done 5k themselves,and are silent,as you would expect really(engine has done 11.5k).
