Hmmm, that story requires investigating!

And wonder will that'll do to supercar insurance premiums?

That's the second Enzo I have seen in half. Granted the last one looked far worse for wear and the driver didn't walk away from that one. 156mph into a lamp post if memory serves!!

Rumours of problems with the carbon fibre tubs that Ferrari use/make apparently. Rumour just got bigger by a factor of two!!!

Paul,
Don't you mean factor of 2. Or maybe more.

Having listened to the news reports on the above site I wouldn't be looking too hard for the missing "driver"! That's a seriously robust safety-cell there - I hope the Noble's can hold up as well (and that I never find out first-hand or second-hand about it!)!

Note the hose found on the road - already up to $42 on eBay

The tub has done exactly what it was designed to do IMHO.

I remember a similar story about a Carrera GT splitting in half. Just like F1 cars, they are desgined (or rather it's implicit in the design) to do that!!!

Yep, I think the design concept is to have the pent up energy expended ripping the car apart rather than the driver. I'll vote for that.
Have a look at the e-bay auction, not quite your usual one.

They've posted up some new photos - they said the car was doing 100-200mph - there's no way that car was travelling at the 100mph end of that speed range!

Bearing in mind no fatalities, this is a sad shot...

Do you think it'll be written off?

That should do no good for insurance in the US!

Compared to the risk of people driving through supermarkets because the satnav told them to "turn left" through the doors, I don't think it's going to make that much difference....

With £500k not unusal for compensation for a serious injury on the road, according to my actuary friend, insurance companies are more worried about who you hurt, not what you hit it in.

Yes that one looks OK. All the ancilliries are designed to break away in the same way as an F1 car, thus absorbing energy rather than you being the beneficiary.

The Italian Enzo looked very different with the tub in pieces which isn't supposed to happen.

Pi55ed and racing on a public highway ? I doubt whether the insurers will be paying for anything other than a new electricity pole .

Having lived in LA and with a bro-in-law being an ex LA Sheriff's Deputy (Police Constable to us but it sounds better their way!) I can say that the "driver" could easily end up doing at least a year!

PS - ripped piece of engine hose now up to $85 on eBay - our American cousins, eh!

And flying without a licence, apparently the telegraph pole was broken 10 feet above the ground. So much for those crappy Ferrari ground effects, honestly.

This is getting interesting...

Update: Feb 23 - 7:30 PM EST - It appears Mr Eriksson may have destroyed a car which didn't belong to him. Police said the car was the property of the Bank of Scotland and was in the process of being repossessed at the time of the crash. The word on the street is the Ferrari was obtained through fraudulent financing along with a Mercedes SLR. When the bank found out, Eriksson simply shipped the Ferrari to the United State. The car had a European registration and nothing had been done to make it street legal in California.
Police have calculated the official speed of impact at 162 MPH.
