V8S glove compartment latch/lock mechanism

Solved the problem with the door locks (I think). The problem was lubricating the pin that goes through the door. The window glass gets in the way somewhat but I managed to squirt some oil in the right direction and can now lock and unlock both doors.
Regarding the glove compartment the latch striker looks home made (I don't have a picture though). I have a key which did not fit the barrel but corrected this by filing out groves in the key but cannot see how the mechanism works. If you close the lid the stiker appears to latch between two rollers located in the dash above the lid and to release I am just pulling the lid down. So I cannot see what the key does, only that it rotates the stiker when the lid is open but cannot see it can do anything when the lid is closed. I'm stumped on this one.

Thanks Pies, Mine looks like one of the first two shown in the link but the latch lever at the back stands upright and is not cranked as in the pictures. However I cannot see how they operate (not able to download further info with my software). When I rotate the key it turns the lever through about 90 deg but the end of the lever is like an arrow head and when you shut the lid it latches when the lever passes through what look like sprung rollers in the dash part. If you pull the lid down it just pops out of the rollers releasing the lid. So all of this is vertical movement and I cannot see rotating the lever with the key can do anything, well it doesn't when closed (the lever is trapped between the rollers). Please advise as I must be missing something

As far as I can remember (haven't seen it for ages) on mine the key turns a flat strip with a slot in the end. The glove box opens downwards and when the latch is in the closed position the strip points up with the slot to the right a bit like an 'F' shape kind of thing if you seem what I mean. This goes into a slot in the bottom of the dash, and I imagine that there is some pin through the slot that the latch engages on. The latch has to be unlocked by turning it anti-clockwise before the glovebox will open, it definitely can't be opened just by pulling on it. The sprung rollers thing sounds like an ordinary non-locking sprung latch as used on the front opening glovebox used on the earlier V6 models and I don't understand how you would come to have a combination of the two types of lock.
