Service lights failed
Discussion
Not quite sure if this is the same problem, but it may help
My recently aquired E34 520i had a problem where the trip/speedo/service lights display would come and go
To fix it I obtained a second hand instrument cluster from a 93 525tds though this part had obviously been replaced at some stage because it was date stamped 96 (different fuel/rev counter but the part your interested in, the circuit board that fits to the rear is the same)
The instrument clusters are a quality peice of kit and come apart beautifully (to remove the air bag steeing wheel DISCONNECT the battery before commencing working)
I paid 30 quid off a guy breaking a car on ebay (the cheapest the specialist breakers wanted was over 90!)
Notice yours is a 525i so a you'll need the higher top speed speedo (ie not a 518/520 or 525tds one)
Have a look on www.realoem.com to assess compatibility
also if your your has an OBC you'll need a different one (the part your looking for is described as 'RMFD CONDUCTOR PLATE'
