Does this do anyone any favours - buyers at least, but really everyone that is into these cars - get people thinking they do have these power numbers!! Sounds Fantastic - seller not a PHer it seems well not linked to a Profile even upfor a part ex with a TT!!
350+ BHP - nothing apart from a Mark Adams chip job (so what) on the ancient Lucus ECU! big deal - we all know the make 245 - 280(absolute max)bhp
Christ if they did make these number there woul be alot of happy campers and we would all drive then and there would have never been a need for a Tuscan!!

Know what mate shave spent to get serious power over a std 500 this just winds me up - just advertise it as - std - Perfect with chip!
The numbers are pretty meaningless, he's got just as much right to quote the factory 340 bhp plus a small bit for the extra chip as you have to quote the figures that you're quoting from the rolling roads that most people use. Neither of them mean anything at all unless you are comparing like with like. All he's really saying is 'probably a little bit more power than standard'. And that's fair enough as far as I can see.
Surely the seller is on rather dangerous ground (unless he has data to back the claim) - a buyer may proceed on the basis of the claim, only to discover that it's perhaps not true by carrying out a rr check of his own. Now I know that all rr figures will vary, and they won't be the same as an engine dyno, but we're not talking small differences here. Without getting too deeply into how much a 500 does produce, surely that figure is at least 50bhp ott.

Not if he was told the chip should add about 10bhp to the car, after all he is only quoting factory figures.

trouble is, just because WE all know that TVR's power claims were occasionally optimistic, there are lots of people who believe what they read, whether it's TVR advertising or a dealer/private ad. Misdescribing things is not really on. Might just as well call it a 6.0L Wildcat if the ad means nothing

Saying it has a Wildcat engine when it doesn't is a lie.
Saying the engine puts out 350 bhp may or may not be accurate, depending how you measure it. I bet it would be possible to find a way to measure it that did show 350 bhp if you wanted to. Point is that the absolute number is meaningless in isolation, and all it means in this case is that it has very slightly more power than standard. Now if it turned out NOT to have a MA chip then you would have every right to get upset.
