The 911 is going, to make way for an M12!!!!

Hi, I recently posted a thread entitled Ferrari 348 or Noble M12. Basically I have a 1998 Porsche 911 (996) which I've decided to sell and replace with something a bit more exciting (I'll probably get a used lexus IS as a daily driver and use the other car on evenings and weekends).
Anyway, I've pretty much decided on a Noble. My budget would only allow for a 2.5. I've driven a 3R (at Newtown Noble), is there a vast difference in performance?
I've also seen a 2.5 for sale with what's advertised as a 'later headlight conversion'. I must say, I do prefer the later covered headlights, is this an expensive modification?
Final question, what are they like for reliability??

As long as you keep the car serviced, and treat it with respect you won't have any problems.

I think Williams in Bristol still service Nobles, although you will need to check.
As for the head light conversion, it's not very easy todo as the factory only sell replacement clams, so if you are looking at an M12 with a converted from clam, I'd have to suspect it'll have had a bump at some point in it's life.
If you are refering to the yellow M12 for sale in Bristol, it's way over priced and I know it's had a bump. There are much better condition 2.5L's out there.

Easy to replace the lenses. 3R lights are nice but they shouldn't put you off a 2.5 or 3l car.
There is not much difference in price between the 2 now, so you might get lucky.
Try to make sure your 2.5 has had the Magnetti Marielli ECU replaced with an upgraded one and that it has a trackday sump (if you want to track it, which you must!!)
There are loads of upgrades available for the 2.5's Talk to Matt FP or Obes on here for help.
The light upgrade on the 2.5s is prohibitivly expensive and difficult to get right, thus its never (hardly) done, unless the front end has been destroyed somehow.

I use my M12 everyday (7000 miles in the last 5 months) Coming from a number of German cars, i was a little nervous at first, but it has never let me down and even the most mundane commute turns into an event. My only problem is trying to keep the milage down.

Hi YGB, I have an M12 GTO-3 in black and I live in Bristol too. Have been on many track days, the car is excellent. I am going out on a run sunday morning with some other cars, meeting in Chew Magna high street at 08.00, then driving out to Cheddar, why don't you come along.

The 2.5 is a great car. Strong engine, razor sharp turn in and light as a feather ! (no bias here obviously!) A standard 2.5 is an awesome drive 
It is tuneable.....very tuneable
but you must be careful on what you go for. Heat management is an issue already, without lobbing a ton of extra horses in so that needs looking at. As does srengthening the orig 2.5 drivetrain which was never designed to take extra horses. Fuelling can be an issue too with ramping up the horsepower.
