What makes this a 50 grand car?

There was a £50K classic Mini produced for the 1996 Motor Show though.

Would love to know where that is now, it got exported as I remember.

If you mean the Mini Hot-Rod (green with the orange stripes) then IIRC it was built for and exported to a customer in Japan.

Same show, different car.

It was metallic burgundy, full cream recaro leather etc.

Shame that one ended up in Japan though, was a lovely little car.

Remember Clarkson describing it as being like being placed in a tin box and pushed off a cliff.

I know the car you mean, took a few pics at the time and just found pics of both in a copy of 'Mini World' from the time, however both are left hand drive so I doubt any Japanese connection at all now!

Maybe they're in Europe, does anybody know more?

I just wish some would note that a 'CONCOURSE' is what you find at airports.
The correct word here is 'CONCOURS'.
In terms of cash values, £50k is not huge when one considers that ex-works 'Proper' Minis can reach very high figures like £75k at auction and all you are getting is a rally car with the number plate which 'won' a certain rally or rallies. The number plates were often changed from car to car and the identities of 'works' cars were changed to suit BMC's paperwork.
There is one alleged works prepared car which sold for a very high figure but was never prepared inside the works comp dep't, it was rebuilt by some of the works mechanics off-site in their spare time. Who knows where the parts came from! 'nuff said about that methinks.

The mini Hot Rod, and Mini Limo (the burgundy one) were both at Gaydon last time I was there.

Hope they've not sold them without telling me.
