Well it has seats in the back you can use unlike the xk

And the "R" makes a hell of a difference.

I am going to look at a 1999 on 120k miles with FJSH, would it be safe to assume the timing chain issues and water pump etc would have been sorted out if it was needed by now?

Never assume anything Some people have run XKs and XJs for over 100K miles without changing tensioners and chains. Well worth checking when they were changed too as if the latest tensioners were not fitted it might need doing again.

If there is no old recipts, is there any way of checking to see if it has been done?

Even with full Jaguar service history, if there's not a reciept for new tensioners, then don't assume its been done. Its not a service item - which is a joke

Its cruel, but I'd suggest you offer £1000 less to get the tensioners done.

Don't worry about the water pump, its not a big deal, so long as you don't drive it of course. also watch out for power steering pumps, I waited 4 months for Jaguar to supply one, gave up and got a re-con item in the end.

But, having said that, do it and enjoy it. So regret getting rid of mine
