Track Day!

Anyone fancy a track day at RAF Marham towards the end of April?

All proceeds go to RAF charities and appeals. Cost is about £60 for the Sunday (well it was last year!)

Hey Gary,

a few questions...

1) What's the deal with noise control? As I'm sure a screaming jet engine is louder than my exhaust - Probably not by much!

2) What's the format? Open pit-lane or timed slots etc etc...?

3) Who do you use for track day insurance?

I don't think there was any noise issues at all. As you said, the jets make a lot more racket than our Ultimas! I shall check just to make sure though.

Last year the Ferrari Owners Club were there. The deal was they had a 20 minute session, then the common people (like me!) had a 20 min go (Open pit lane during that time). Six sessions in all, spread throughout the day. Facilities were good, (unlike the charity day I had at Bruntingthorpe last year, where the toilets there were non existent!) Plus, the "squaddies" organised a lunchtime meal for us all (at extra cost mind you)

I did'nt have any track day insurance. It is such a wide track, you would be hard pushed to do any damage. Everybody behaved themselves, which is very reassuring for a newbie like myself.

I would'nt go if it was raining though!!

Im interested having watched Ian's vid. Where is RAF Marham - is it in EAnglia somewhere ? And does it have fast high G corners that will mean I first have to fit an Accusump ?

If you take it easy thru the twisty bits, and only let it rip on the straights, you're probably ok, but the Accusump is pretty cheap insurance, so it's definately worth getting one fitted (I have a Dry Sump setup, so 4 bar constant!).

What is the format for the day?
It sounds like the ideal way for me to do my first track day but the down side is the 3.5 hour drive to get there.
Is it Sat. and Sun. and if so are you only planning for the Sunday?
Do people camp?

If it's like last year, then we will be there on the Sunday. It was mainly bikes on Saturday, although there were a few cars on both days.

I don't think you will be allowed to camp as it is an operational air base. There are plenty of places to stay around that area. Kings Lynn is only 15 mins away!
