Heat and sound insulation

Guys,

I am at the stage now when I need to insulate the panels to the ally tub on my GTR, and decide on wht should fill the void between the double-skins (or should I?).

Can you tell me your preferences/experiences regarding heat shield matting and methods for the outside of the ally tub, the rear bulkhead, and the engine compartment etc?

There are a number of suppliers on the internet, but I would rather go with recommendation, so which is the best material for each job, and what are your experiences ref the suppliers and cost especially since I reside in the UK? Suppose no probelm gettting stuff from the US or elswhere if there is a cost advantage or better product!

you may be interested in looking at www.coollizard.com they have a spray on ceramic heat, noise and moisture barrier which I will be using on my GTR. This could be applied to finished cars as well. I hope this is helpful. Marshall

I put a fiberglass/aluminium shielding on the outside of the aluminium body panels, and on the outside of the luggage pods in the channel where the engine coolant pipes go in order to keep as much heat outside the cabin as possible. Don't wrap the coolant pipes - apparently that can cause problems.

In terms of noise reduction, I wouldn't bother. I put Dynamat, foam and carpet on the inside of the rear bulkhead, and it really makes no difference. I don't know what the issues are, but I suspect that the rigid chassis structure of the Ultima means noise is conducted very easily from the engine and the road, when compared to a regular car.

Heat it seems is something that you can influence, but noise seems like you can't. Its a racing car, afterall! Hope that helps.
