Picked up my 3R yesterday !

Hi All,
I finally collected my Indigo Blue 3R yesterday. Although the car was at Hexham Horseless carriages I met Tony from HHC with the car halfway at Donnington Motor Museum, where we did the exchange of paperwork. They had done an excellent job of preparation and carried out a full service beforehand including stripping down the brakes and cleaning the holes in the crossed drilled discs. Now I see why you chaps love these cars !!
I decided to take the cross country route home to Salisbury area which included going down the old Fosse way and then A roads to Chippenham and Warminster finishing off with the recently voted " most twisty section of road " from Carn in Shaftesbury to Tollard Royal . I am amazed at the steering feel ( much more than my previous 355 ), it's more akin to a 911 ( 993 ) which I thought had great feedback. The ride and damping control over some of our very poorly patched roads is astounding ! I soon learnt that my right foot was my traction control, as even accelerating out of village in 3rd gear broke traction in the slightly damp conditions ! I found it encourages you to drive smoothly and in those condition use a higher gear and ride the wall of torque to breeze past other cars quickly and safely. Another plus point is the whole structure is so stiff that nothing creaked and rattled ( apart from me ! )
I got lots of thumbs up from drivers of other cars. Overall the whole journey was an event, and a great way to get to know the car ! Loved it !!
Couple of questions for any owners .
1) Are the 3R headlamps bi xenon as stated in the handbook as they are not your usual blue/white as on my wifes X5 ??
2) My temperature control on the heater is stiff . Anybody elses the same ?
3) Mine is run on Mobil one 0W/40 oil and not on the Shell helix 5W/40 as mentioned in the handbook ?? ( it has a baffled sump )
4) I need some carpet mats. Who makes the best ones ?

Welcome aboard. Can't answer all your questions but the heater contols are all stiff AFAIK. Carpet mats are available from www.noblemods.co.uk.

James welcome to the Nobility!
1) they are not bi xenon - Noble made a mistake in the printing! I think you can upgrade with Philips or similar make brighter bulbs though (assuming you don't mind messing with lots of silicon!)
2) stiff yes - so long as it works OK all is well - I find myself constantly adjusting it on a run as the engine changes temp. The heater is superb and the a/c works fine too.
3) this is confusing as I'd expect Helix all through a 3R's life to date. Suggest you go directly to the factory for some history and also the previous owner/s

Technically, the car should run on the recommended Shell lubricant, but the Mobil is at least fully synthetic.
I'm afraid the lights are standard Halogen, rather than bi-xenon.

great to see another convert from the prancing horse.
I also went straight from a 355 spider with the f1 box into an indigo blue (the best colour imo) 3r. Only complaint would be the gearbox but after the f1 any manual box would be a challenge!In all other areas I think the Noble destroys the ferrari. Now all i need is my M15 convertible!!!!!! (any comments from the factory welcome)

I looked into this before I had my car built. The Xenon lights require a huge transformer or stepper to increase the voltage required to make them work. I know PIAA do a xenon kit now which is quite expensive and requires some re-wiring. They have a very good website.
I found by fitting PIAA bright white bulbs and raising the beam up a touch works better than the standard set up. To raise the beam means unsealing the light pod at the back of the light assembly, then adjusting the light holders to raise the beam. I set a mark on the garage wall with the original beam on dip, then adjusted the beam up a touch. Make sure you re-seal the light pod again properly or the lights may mist up behind the lens covers.

Quite a few companies do HID kits now, starting round the £250 mark. If you go to www.Nobleforums.com Brav has fitted them, there is a post with some pictures that show the difference. The modern ballast are not that big, and wiring is a simple job.

Congrats on the aquisition. I did the HID retrofit. Relatviely simple, but you do need to find a spot to mount the ballasts, outside of the housing covers. Best spot so far is right behind the radiator fans. Also, you may need to lengthen the ballast wires. Might want a pro to do this. High voltage!
