My 4 litre '92 pre-cat Griff is running on Goodyear Eagle 225/50R16 ZR F1. I am am considering my first track day, any thoughts on if I dig deep and buy a new set of rubbers, and what??
I have seen Griff's running Toyo but they do not do the ZR rating.
The Steve Heath bible he says stick with as close as possible to the original spec and that the Toyo Proxes T1-S 225/50 R16 Y could invalidate my insurance.
What to do?
By the way I have only been a TVR owner for one year but love it!!

The Y rating is essentially the same as Z rating - so no insurance issues (W and Y are acceptable). It's the V rated Toyos that some people fit that may potentially be an issue but then if your ins. co. accept the mod then OK.
You'll find that you'll struggle to get new 15" front tyres in a Z rating though.
edited to add: unless your tyres are down to 3mm or less I'd keep them for the track day and fit your nice new ones afterwards.

If you have 16's allround, then the Goodyear F1 gd3's are a great tyre and I found the best compromise between road and trackdays.If you have 15 fronts you will have to go for the gd2, which I haven't used.
On the contary to the above post,you want fresh tyres for trackdays,old tyres are only good for burnouts or the bin.
