My brother is planning on going into TVR ownership in the near future. He has a decent budget to buy with (10-16k if anyone has anything going) but doesent earn that much so running costs need to be reasonable. He is caught between a Chim and a Griff. Which of these is the least expensive (generally) to maintain and fix?
I assume it would be an RV8 engined car as my Tuscan leaks money worse than the wife!!

TBh, apart from looks the Chims and Griffs are essentially the same cars.
Servicing, as you probably know, is every 6k or 12 mths. An interim 6k service is circa £300 from a good indie with a 12k service being around £4-500. Bear in mind that a car may/may not need a lot of extra work. I've had mine a year now and every expense has been detailed in my profile should you want to get a better idea.
Remember that some cars will just need the servicing, others like mine may need other work doing at the same time.

Chims and Griffs are essentially the same so running costs will be the same. How much you spend each year depends on many things. I spend about £2k pa exc. insurance, road tax and fuel. It's quite possible to spend less than £1k pa and still have an excellent, well cared for car. If you get sucked into track days/sprinting/modding etc. then your costs are going to escalate! HTH.
I guess, at a push, I would plump for the Chim, purely on the basis that there were a lot more Chim than Griffs built, so any Chim-only-related parts 'may' be slightly cheaper and easier to get hold of. Other than that, they're both great cars, but Griffs hold a slightly higher premium, due to the lesser numbers, I think!
Exactly the same running costs, the Chimaera will be slightly cheaper to buy on a like for like age/mileage/condition front though.
If he can't afford at least £100 a month after paying for insurance, tax, and fuel he's going to be on here moaning about his expensive unreliable car in 6 months
If monthly spare cash is thin on the ground and he's got £16k under the mattress my advice would be to look at cars that are £13k and put £3k in a TVR Fund ISA
