flash looking tvr lighter's from ebay.
Given one for christmas thought it was about time
to put it in the car. Took old one out put new
one in big mistake. Drivers door would not open.
Had to crawl out via passenger door. Lights not working
boot not working. After using secret way in change blown
fuse all ok. Have heard this before but forgot.

Same happened to me, made a post about it in October
Was it you that Steve T phoned me about BB?
Did not disconnect battery before fitting, just pulled out old one
and pushed new one in. New lighter was slightly too long so made
contact and heated up instantly, and blew fuse. If it had been shorter would not have a
problem unless wanted to use. Nick I had seen your post but forgotten, Steve may have
phoned you. Andy at APM talked me through getting in. Lots of hassle for a small bit of silver.

ah, i thought it was maybe a complete unit including the bit *inside* the door .. it's just the push-button bit you buy then? there's different lengths of these so you need the right push part and rear receptacle bit to go with it, they're usually sold as a matching pair so don't know why they'de be sold in isolation, has anyone thought to tell the seller? ...
They are sold to look good, nice silver with
TVR logo. I do not use the lighter and even
if it was the right length as soon as you push
it in the fuse will blow. Lots of cerbs have
had this problem. The seller said he does not
know why it would happen. Can send it back to
get a refund but will try to unscrew the top
part and attach to original.

I just threw mine in the bin...spitting in disgust as I did

As BB said, I didnt even press the lighter in, just sliding it in the hole (ooo err missus) resulted in the fuses blowing immediately the metal touched metal

Yep
I also purchased one from this site. Similar issue apart from didnt fit to start of with. Then followed instructions to make it fit. The lighter then fell apart in situ and started to smoulder. Had to quickly disconeect the battery then remove offending peices of metal to stop my car going up in flames!!!!
