Not sure there is much of a difference nutrition wise.. Satsumas and clementines would be my pick, easier to get into, sweeter tasting

Just go with whatever is cheapest, you'll still have to chuck it away when it rots because it never gets eaten...or is that just me?

I agree, all basically the same but different sizes.

The trick is to buy things in the middle of their season. At the beginning and end, you get weird hybrids that only exist because they crop early or late. They taste crap.

Rather annoyingly, it's almost impossible to tell in a supermarket what the actual variety is. It might say Clementine, but it's probably a Hernandina, a Kara or some other watery-tasting thing. It's also tough to tell when the middle of the season is, unless you're unfortunate enough to work in my trade.

So, I've not been much help have I?!

top tips:
1. Don't go on appearance. Sometimes the mangy looking ones taste great.
2. Spanish is a safer bet than Moroccan at the moment, taste wise
3. Buy the loose. Get a few, if they're nice go back and get more. Nothing more annoying than buying a kilo bag and discovering that they're tasteless.

HTH,

If you are a lazy bu66er like me, Just buy one of the 'no additive' smoothies... all the nutrician, none of the fuss.

Taste pretty good too. Today I am mostly doing the 'Innocent' Strawberry & Banana.

clementines are my favourite orange-type citrus fruit. small, easily peeled and lacking in all the wall-insulation like pith that makes me wanna gag when i accidentally get a bit in my mouth!

But I can name ten different varieties of fruit, all called clementines on the shelf. Ranging in taste from nectar-like to bath-water.

Raify posting on a "fruit" thread...whatever next?

And before you ask, yes I do know that a banana is a herb.

Satsumas are generally soft with baggy skins and taste of nothing much.

I suggest Clementines, with their tight young skins, firm bodies and pert countenance...

Ha! wrong! Banana is a fruit, the plant from which it comes from is a herb (and not a tree).

It's the same with Satsumas btw, there are plenty of strange hybrids, all labelled Satsuma on the supermarket shelf.

Satsumas are a deep, ruddy orange. They rock, unlike manky, baggy, seedy tangerines.

Which makes a banana a 'yellow', a stawberry a 'red' etc.....
