There's been a constant stream of Chinooks going back and forth the last couple of days in East Beds/Cambs. The last one to go over was carrying something large underneath.

Anyone know what's going on?

Bloody Great isnt It, I love the sound of them. They have near enough been coming right over the top of my house, 2 in the last 2 days and more, like you say in the last couple of weeks.
Not sure where they are based in East Anglia, but imageing it may be something to do with all the extra troops going out to Iraq and them helping move gear around the UK.

They are probably from RAF Odiham and are getting all "tooled up"ready for Afghanistan, aswell as moving prescotts pies.

For some reason I've never considered helicopters proper aircraft even though I know they require greater skill to fly.

Nor me, they're so inelegant.

its been on the anglia news and in the local press, there's a big pretend battle going on, as a bit of a cobweb clearer before they're off to afghanistan.

on an amusing note withe regards to the distinctive noise that chinooks make, a few years ago in work, it was summer, hangar doors were open, distinctive , resonating noise is heard coming from outside, ex army air corps chap working next to me pipes up in a smug tone of voice, "recognise that noise any where, thats a chinook", carried on working for a few minutes as the noise gets louder and louder, he pipes up again, "yup, definately a chinnook".....with that the source of the noise is revealed to be a single cyinder dumper truck driving across the airfield outside!...

The Bell UH-1 (Huey) and the Huey Cobra make a somewhat similar noise.
