A friend in the US sent me this link B-2 Airshow I thought the pictures were so good and the accompanying information so interesting that people on here might like to visit the site.

That is a very impressive piece of kit.

You can understand why people who saw it when in development and test flights thought we were being invaded by aliens.

Twas what it said when I read it. I bet they don't muck about in these too much.

Imagine what it feels like to take responsibilty for something so valuable...

Not many people know that lazyitus designed the Stealth Bomber too.

He can be seen below in Ipswich, carrying his first prototype model to the local 'inventors club' meeting back in 1983.

Another of his inventions is the 'odourless poo'

The first time the stealth bomber appeared at Farnborough airshow it flew very low over our heads (a mate had a house right next to the airport) & looked pretty cool. A while later I was visiting one of our carriers & was told by the crew that it had been tracked all the way over to the show by them. Additionally, during recent war games they locked onto it & reported knocking it out (however they do it? "Please sir, we've hit the one at grid ref..... Make him take his shots"!). The US military were far from impressed (like you would be after spending all that cash on making something invisible to radar.

That site says $2.2bn - $2.4bn, or "worth twice its weight in gold"

Back in the early 90's, a radar system I was working on kept getting odd contacts reported - the field engineers just said "ignore those - its just the Yanks testing their stealth bomber"

You're thinking of the SR71.

We had an air defence system at that show and tracked it all the way in, around and out for a LONG way - the US said they weren't in stealth mode etc but we were IR at the time, anyway 5 hours of flying does tend to warm the airframe up a bit! We obviously made hay with the press etc with pics and releases and boy did it hit the fan - right to the top and I mean the top but at the end of the day it is a public show and anyone with a good E/O tracker could do the same. I just happen to have the videos in my office now.

edited to add - cracking pictures on that link, what a beast!
