Any Pistonheads member claim to own a Maxi? Perhaps Lotus could have a look at it!

I drove an Army Maxi 1500 Mk1, around Germany / Low countries etc and it was awful, gutless and very prone to overheating.
The developed 1750 Mk11 HL was a different matter, reasonably fast and frugal and, in my experience, very reliable.
We were able to fit a sailing mast diagonally in the car and close the hatch. A friend used to fill his Maxi with bibles (later medical supplies) and drive all around Poland and the Soviet Union often having to outrun the police who generally did not appreciate his missionery work. I made a far more worldly use of the double bed facility!
I was not at all surprised that the old car managed to get to the Sahara and the Arctic Circle, the car was underestimated in its time and unfairly derided by those who do not know how good it became.
