Not in my opinion. I'd happily pay 3 times that amount, British television is brilliant.

Hmmm, subscribe to a SKY package for £29.99 a month, have five hundred channels and nothing to watch. Rent a DVD from the video shop every now & then at £2 or £3 a throw, soon adds up to the licence fee.

Worth it just for 'Johnny and the bomb' and 'Life on Mars', to mention but just two programmes.

Although there was sod all on on Saturday.

BBC Radio makes it worthwhile, although like BBC TV i'd rather they didn't advertise their own programs so much.

Cheers,
Rob.

But they only advertise themselfs to create a timeslot for UKGold to fit their own adverts in.
If you need proof look at programmes from the 80's and 90's and compare them to the length of programmes today, they are shorter. Even when running overtime they still manage to fit at least 5 mins of cr@p in.

It's may be decent enough value to some people, but now we have entered the digital age it should be your CHOICE whether to subscibe to the BBC or not.

I think the point is that we don't have any choice but to pay this tax if we own a telly. What a rip off! Why should I have to pay them for something I don't want? Why can't they fund themselves like all the rest have to? Someone please tell me?

I don't watch or listen to BBC programs anymore because they're full of global warming, anti-car, speed kills propaganda. I consider myself truely pissed on to then have to pay them for that!

Explain to me how "The Bigger Picture With Graham Norton" is value for money. As a serious documentary on the catastrophic effects of structural failure of pre-stressed ferro-concrete structures, in this example as a television studio collapses on, and kills..slowly..., the participants, production crew, and audience of a feeble attempt at humour...it would be educational. As it is, it's another nail in the coffin of the BBC. The documentaries and the journalism are beyond reproach...but the bulk of the BBC's output is utter tripe.

Your examples are very selective though. There is a great deal of superb programming on, you've just mentioned the week-in week-out stuff thats cheap entertainment for the masses.

I suspect that the other posters here could mention many examples of great television over the last month, why just the other night there was a superb new drama about Elizabeth I (The Virgin Queen) on BBC1.

Mind you, we could always go the American route and have Fox News.

heh, not an employee in the 'staff' sense, but honestly I would pay the money. I think the BBC is a great organisation, ruined by a certain Mr Birt.

Let's see. Conservative estimate: forty million households at £130 a year. That's 400 MILLION quid. Seems like a lot of money to produce dross, maybe it's about time Wogan took a pay cut.

Completely irrelevant, if you don't want sky, don't buy it.

If you don't want BBC, tough!
