Dave

I have an AS engine that came from them with the standard Holley Carb set up. I told Gail when I was deciding on the engine spec that I might be removing the carb and going EFI. Based upon that and other factors he steered me to a particular engine...the Torquer 480, which dynoed at his place at 493 HP and 513 ft lbs. Before the engine was installed in my GTR we did in fact remove the carb and installed the Holley Commander 1000 EFI system which has been great and is laptop tuneable. I also added Racelogic Traction Control which I love by the way. We haven't dynoed the engine again after the EFI install but have that on my list for this year. Here are a couple of pics:

Hope this helps.

My customer has a Holley Commander system and I'm about to fit it. I have to say I'm also quite impressed with it. It looks simple enough to use and map. Thought the throttles were very small though but in this application that may be an advantage. Anybody know if it will run with a 2 bar MAP sensor for low boost applications.

Hi Mike

I'm using the Holley Commander system on my ProCharger project and yes it will run with a 2 bar MAP sensor. I have one for mine. If you need it the Holley part number is 538-13. I'm looking forward to setting mine up. Still a way off yet!

Regards Dave

Dave, thanks for that. I'm going to have a read of the manual in the next day or to Nice site by the way.

Brad,

Are you using Carbon-fibre panels? It looks sneakily like one in your photo!
How did you find the cost?

Hi Keith:

Yes, we did panel in carbon as several others have as well. I spent about $1800 on carbon panelling and did the full interior, nose area and radiator inlet area. Here are some pics:

Apologies for bumping this up, but I'm curious about the panelling, is it carbon kevlar? or carbon fibre? or the sandwich type. Can't tell from the pictures whether its silver or yellow streaks in the panels. do the panels in the cockpit flex unnervingly when you put any weight on them?

Looks like most of the panels where kept straight edged, couldn't see any curling over the side cockpit rails in the picture. Can most of the alu panels be replaced without any special (expensive) moulding?

Aside from being very cool, is there a perceptible difference in the weight to make it more than an aesthetic feature? and last but not least do you have any templates or did the guy who make them do all that for you?

P.S. It does look very nice.

It is carbon fiber. The panels are installed and as such...of course....are not flexing but my recolection was that they were stiffer than the aluminum by a good amount. All of the pieces (except the Reverie suff on the engine) are straight and flat. The need for rounded edges was only evident around the round tubes by the cockpit where your outer elbow would sit on the sill. Several guys on here have spent the time/money to form or have formed rounded pieces to fit. We simply brought the sheets up as far as you could.....siliconed a bead at the edge of the sheet and the tube and did the same at the top surface. As the frame is black like the carbon the tube almost disapears from sight. Add in the black rivets and it looks as though it was designed that way. As far as the wight goes...they are lighter but I didn't weigh them so I can't tell you by how much. In my case watching what I eat for a week would make about the same difference! All the pieces were made to fit and we have not made templates but it wasn't a big deal to do. They are very messy and difficult to cut....in fact I think Jeff Schwartz ended up cutting his with a water jet. In my case the panels were well worth the time and money that went into them as nearly every person who looks at the car.....shows and street...comment on them. Hope that helps.

1800USD sounded too reasonable for the amount of material compared to some other carbon bits I could mention. I was wondering about the quality of the panels as it can vary quite a bit, just depends on how much you're willing to pay.

I've never tinkered with carbon fibre but opinion is universal in that its difficult to manage. Not sure personally, I do prefer it to the aluminium. I'm not in any hurry, will do a bit more research and see if its feasible in terms of money and labour. I may consider it for the cockpit panels only. The sticky stuff looks good but I don't know if it will "weather" well.

Thanks for the info.

My recollection was that were some edges to some of the sheets we received which were unuseable but overall the quality was very very good. The peices actually on the car are to my eye without flaws. This CF came from a Advance Materials and Design Company in California I believe. Here is a link if you're interested www.vacuumbagging.com/

Chris

When I got my engine (3-4 years ago) AS wasn't offering EFI and I'm not sure if they do these days or not. The holley Commander system we used ran about $2500 and I think would support up to 1000hp but I'm not sure on that one. It does however work great on my lowly 500hp lump. Hope that helps.
