chemists - "nothing is more effective without prescription"
Discussion
is it just me or is that a very clever phrase that you couldn't get hauled in front of the Advertising Standards Agency for using? I.e. Nothing (taking nothing) is actually more effective than this concoction of chemicals that will not assist in your ailment at all...
just a thought...

Maybe...
I just upgraded my headlight bulbs with ones that say "Up to 50% brighter" when i questioned the guy in the shop he couldn't see my logic when i suggested that these new ones could be 50% weaker than my old ones and the slogan would still be accurate...
the 50% just implies that they are 50% brighter than the previous bulbs, not your current bulbs, right?

No, the point is that it says "up to", meaning essentially nothing. They could be 10% dimmer than your current bulbs, but the slogan wouldn't be incorrect. Like the car insurance ones where they say "save up to £175".

got ya, so they could just be 1 per cent brighter, but because it says up to, it means

usually applies to cough cold remidies and to be honest nothing is probably just as effective as the concoctions. Going to the Dr and getting a prescription (antiboiotics) is also as effective as taking nothing
Mind you a nice single malt usually helps...
It's advertising hype put out by the drug companies.Used to amuse me when the "Nothing works faster than Anadin" ads were on - I/V Pethidine would.
It's surprising how often members of the general public want a branded product "Nurofen" for example rather than the generic Ibuprofen (which would cost them half the money) just because they've seen an advert on the TV.
