I'm 23 and have no NCB because I've never had my own insurance.

I wanted to insure my 190E 2.5-16, perhaps on a classic policy, and maybe insure my 190E 2.0 as well if I can be bothered to get a quote for both cars on one policy.

(Modern) Classic insurance seems like a good idea, but is it true you earn no NCB?

In which case, should I just pay normal insurance?

My best quote was a bit under £600 with a mainstream insurer, which isn't bad for a group 16 (I think) Merc with 200bhp to a young guy with no NCB.

Should I just jump at that? There was a bit of voluntary excess and 6000 mile limit, but otherwise none of the disadvantages of a classic policy. Most other insurers were quoting me £1000+, if at all. I have done quite a lot of quotes and the supposed 'cheap' specialist/prestige/sports type guys either didn't insure me or made very high quotes.

cheers

I didn't even get asked about an NCB when I recently took out classic insurance on my old Corolla - they don't take it into account.

Get a Classic Car mag and ring some of the ads in the classified, don't mistake mainstream "classic" policies offered in normal press, its just a ruse to get you suckered in and they cost a fortune!

I got my 1986 Corolla insured FC with 5k mileage limit p/a for less than £190 fwiw.

At 23 you might struggle getting a classic policy though, I'm fairly sure most ask for 25 min age?

When i got my second vette i gave HC Edwards a ring as i heard they were good ,from the second owner,i already insure two other cars including another vette(with classic cover) so i had to start with a fresh policy for my new aquisition with no NCB.

Worried about having to start a fresh with no NCB for this third car i held my breath till i heard the quote, and couldny believe my ears....it was lower than the insurance cost for my other vette?....the reason.....they mirror your NCB on your other policy.
Dont ask me how it works though,i just bit his arm off.

Some do required NCB, it was required for my TVR but I changed companies so on the Pontiac (both on classic policies) the new company didn't need NCB but make sure they maintain it if you have one (I had 6 years) otherwise it lost and at next renewal you have to start again

Classicline dont give NCB discounts on classic policies but they do add up the no claim years

Best thing I ever did was take two policies out with admiral on my daily driver and the TVR and they automatically gave me the same NCB on the second car. I couldn't drive both at the same time so that's very logical.

The following year I had two policies with full NCB on both, result!

I've heard that Lancaster Insurance do a classic policy that takes NCB into account and accrues it too. Haven't tried it myself yet, so I don't know for sure. Got to be worth a call though
