Just had my S1 serviced by main dealer and been advised that I will, in the very near future, require new disks all round.

I don't take chances with brake maintenance but with only 26k miles on the clock this seems premature.

Can anyone advise what the minimum disk thickness(s) should be and whether 26k miles is a typical replacement mileage?

I guess it depends what you have done with them.

If your a trackday regular then I am amazed they lasted so well, if all you do is motorways then yes its probably low.

out of interest were the mmc or normal disks?

I should hope they're not MMC disks - mine have lasted 120,000 miles!

I think the minimum thickness is 24.9mm.
Don't get your new disks from lotus, try www.hispecbigbrakes.co.uk for disks from £40. I think these poeple make disks for EBC.
My first disks lasted 17000 miles, although my finest effort consumed my front disks in 3000 road miles(won't try mintex pads again).

Thanks for the response but I clearly have some learning to do. What's the difference between MMC and normal?

Normal road use. No trackday (yet).

MMC disks were fitted to Elises for the first couple of years(ended in 98 I think) they are made from a light weight alloy ceramic compound which should last over 100,000 miles. They don't rust or work in the wet.

Looks like 26k is not an unreasonable time to replace. Thanks for the input. Found a few useful links from this.
