Our dishwasher is terrible, you may as well go outside and wash the dishes and glasses in a puddle

It's an integrated dishwasher and a standard size with 12 place setting capacity.

Can anyone recommend a good make and model?

And also a supplier who is reasonable in cost?

Also, a general question about integrated dishy washies .....why the hell are they so damned expensive when there is much less to them than a free standing one - seems a bit of a rip off to me that they command a price of almost twice as much!

Five times as much when the integrated dishwasher
decides to generate an integrated puddle over
half of the ground floor.

Seriously, investigate the options of having
the outdoor puddle heated, and how many place
settings it will wash in one go.

Interestingly, if you buy a "normal" Bosch dishwasher and take off the door front, lower side panels, lowe front panel and so-on it very quickly resembles a semi-integrated appliance. It seems they charge you much more to leave pieces off.

Make of this what you want - just don't blame me if your kitchen fills with water...

stupid question, but is the thing heating up? If the element is not working, you are washing in cold water with reaults to match! Are all the "function lights" working?

As to the cost, yes, bloody stupid. It's all down to the design & the clean lines of an integrated unit, any excuse to push the price up.

I've sold expensive dishwashers & I've sold cheap dishwashers, & I can't see the price difference is justified. Like a lot of things, you're paying for the name.
If someone tells you that such & such is a good make, It's probably because that's the one they've got. They know no more about them than the next person.
No one likes to admit that they have bought something they know nothing about.

In my personal case (I am a cabinet maker & I have built as fair few hand made kitchens) we bought a cheap & cheerful integrated DW, it lasted about 5 yrs before the element went pop, we had the part replaced. Next time anything drastic fails I shall replace the appliance, probably with another cheap "high street name"
Glad to help further if needed

Hi folks,

Thanks for the replies.

To answer some questions... yes the dishwasher is getting hot and I have rinse aid in the machine. I have cleaned all the filters out and used one of those dishwasher cleaners but it makes little difference.

What I shall do is pull everything out and check that the waste connection isn't kinked or too high behind the machine as I know this can leave dirty water re-circulating in the washer. We had this trouble at our last house. That particular dishwasher worked really well after the waste pipe was sorted out.

I amy replace the machine anyway as it's very very noisy and it takes an eternity to wash, the previous one took 30 minutes and this one take about 1 hour 20 minutes on a quick wash cycle!

If it's any comfort my mate and I spent a good chunk of new years eve taking my dishwasher apart when we were supposed to be cooking tea for the ladies. The damn thing started making that fishy electrical smell and being hands on guys who'd had a pint or two decided to strip the machine down there and then (much to the dismay of the hungry ladies).

After smelling each component in turn over the course of about half an hour to determine which one had fried we then found the decomposing mouse in the door...

We've got a Baumatic, which at the time was the cheapest integrated one I could find, at I think about £300 18 months ago. It's absolute crap - noisy, doesn't wash glasses properly and all the programs take an age to complete. Mum & Dad paid a bit more for a Miele free-standing, which is near silent, washes in half the time, and everything comes out spotless.
One thing worth checking is whether your dinner plates fit in without being hit by the spinning thing - ours didn't, so we had to buy smaller plates. Upside I suppose is that I eat a bit less!

I asked an appliance shop why integrated stuff was sooo expensive when I replaced a washing machine last month.

Apparently, we're the only country in Europe that has integrated appliances (I find that hard to believe personally but I couldn't be arsed to fetch the blowtorch and pliers to try and get the truth) and therefore the manufacturers only make several thousand a year which they feel justifies tripling the price.

Ive just bought a whole load of new integrated appliances.

Just do a search on yahoo for the model number.

I went for all Siemens stuff including an integrated dishwasher.

I honestly cannot believe how quiet it is.

Our fully integrated machine (bought 5 yrs ago) is branded Hotpoint, but it's actually made by Bosch. Unusually, Hotpoint make a feature of that in the brochure. It was around £300 instead of the £500 that most fully integrated machines cost.
if you go to somewhere like John Lewis where they have a lot on display, you'll fine there's only 2 or 3 variations of the internal contruction, as they're made in the same places.

They all seem to take a long time to wash though - ours has rinse (but nothing more) that takes 30mins, but washing takes 70-80mins. Our previous one was the same, and the machines on my parents and inlaws houses are the same.
