I just googled Pistonheads and found this bunch and their thrilling website. www.mylinkspage.com/roadrage.html

Right at the bottom there is a link to PistonHeads under the title "The Enemy" together with the ABD and Evo Magazine.

They list their aims as:

Sandalist Website said:
For redesigning town centres to reduce traffic out and to create fine public spaces for pedestrians to enjoy

For the adoption of pay-as-you-enter type schemes to reduce traffic coming into inner urban areas
For speed cameras, traffic calming and other measures to slow down traffic - and for making such measures genuine deterrents against speeding

For the creation of low-speed "home zones" in residential areas
For the creation of "green routes", both locally and nationally, for walkers & cyclists

Against the maze of bureacratic obstacles that stand in the way of sustainable transport schemes
Against the differential funding system which provides billions for roads but leaves "green" transport schemes systematically underfunded and marginalised.

One of their suggestions is to rollerblade instead of drive. I'll bear that in mind for my 57 mile commute

The first and last time my misses went on roller blades she nearly killed herself and a small dog being walked by it's elderly owner..

Never done anything like it in her trusty family Picasso though

excellent

now back on topic.......I will consider all possible means of transport between my isolated village and Warwick where I currently work (45 miles each way) and will then use the only possible transport method i.e. the car.

Wankers....I agree about the Bureaucrats being the enemy though!

Hardly a solution for anyone with a family. Imagine uprooting your kids/mrs everytime you changed jobs (or vice versa if she is the main earner).

This lot of morons really cheese me off - what a bunch of loosers!

OK,

they talk about making my local town pedestrian - it already is... next.
They talk about making my residential area traffic calmed - you cant, its a 1911 house with roads and pavements to match. Gotta knock the lot down to start again.
They talk about better public transport - not for me - I travel to 100's of different places week in and week out - so no benefit for me
They talk about getting people out of their car - well stuff you as that would effectively do me out of a job
They talk about speed kills - well hell yes, 5MPH kills - pedestrians and cars dont mix. Putting a 60MPH road next to a major pedestrian area is a bit daft. Keep 'em separate and whoa, what happens? Deaths drop.... just like putting that tight junction on a NSL road, or that badly sign-posted traffic light section.... all dangerous regardless if you are doing 70, 60 or even 45....

Pillocks who live in this wonderful dream world where they can walk to work, buy from their local corner shop and buy organic foods. Well not everyone is in that position and while I remain diametrically opposed to this bunch of loosers, I will never give them the time of day...

Morons....

I could but I work in the motor trade, we move about, I worked in York (40 miles away), then in Scarborough (5 miles away) then got headhunted to Hull (57 miles away), all within the last 3 years. Moving with my job isn't a good option, anyway if I can afford the juice why shouldn't I work where the hell I want? Not having a go at you Yertis

18. The enemy

* Pistonheads - a website for, well... pistonheads just about sums it up really. All very sad.
* Keep London Free - against London's road pricing scheme.
* The Association of British Drivers represents the Jeremy Clarkson end of British motorists - they want: no speed cameras; faster speed limits; no traffic calming; cheaper fuel; more motorways; no road pricing... and they don't believe that cars have anything to do with global warming, children's asthma or lung cancer.
* Sod U Ken - against London's road-pricing scheme.
* EVO is a magazine dedicated to the thrill of driving - "it is possible to enjoy driving without killing people or giving sunflowers asthma, road safety is not just about drivers but about pedestrians, what happened to the green cross code man?"

These people really are the absolute pits aren't they? They're just utterly joyless people with nothing of any interest or use to say, just on a never-ending crusade against absolutely everything that they don't understand.

Apparently we are "very sad" I don't know how I sleep at night Is it beyond the scope of their tiny blighted little narrow minds that people can have a hobby? I'm sure we would think their hobbies (train spotting? dandelion counting? worm husbandry?) are a bit sad, but hey, each to his/her own.

Anti-road pricing? Hell yes! I don't suppose any of these sandalistas would understand that sometimes you have to drive in central London! People don't sit there in jams by choice! If pubic () transport was better and more efficient why wouldn't people use it!? The answer is, that it is STILL cheaper, easier, and less problematic to travel between sites with lots of gear (as many "normal" people (ie not Islington librarians) have to do) in a car, rather than lugging everything on overcrowded and stinking buses and trains, and then walking between where they go and where you actually want to go! And of course that depends on them running late enough / early enough / where you want to go

ABD? Far be it for us to have an organisation to defend us! Not to mention that they have forgotten to qualify all that stuff - it's not blanket removal of speed limits for crying out loud! More motorways? It will easy congestion and free up local roads for you! Glad they got "the children" in too Still not seen any convincing arguments about global warming - the planet is heating up, yes, IT HAPPENS! And cars are a fraction of 1 percent of the CO2 emitted. Industry, planes, developing countries. But I'm sure if we leave our cars at home and get buses (diesel) or trains (diesel or electricity coming from a power plant) then it'll make all the difference. Actually, the only difference it will make is us not getting where we want to go on time as suddenly the public transport system is even more grossly overloaded...

As for the Evo one - what is their issue with the quote? Do they actually believe that road safety is solely the responsibility of drivers, not pedestrians? Now we really are seeing the intellectual level of this pond life!

And breathe.....

Let's not forget the job our wonderful government are doing trying to encourage us to to move with our jobs and thus cut congestion etc. They've increased stamp duty taxation receipts by 800% since 1997......

Fiscal drag?

Increased taxation from a healthy economy, that sort of thing?

Fiscal drag, in the case of property stamp duty is where the stamp duty thresholds remain the same but property prices increase. Result? Government stamp duty revenues increase without doing anything.

None taken.

I few years ago I moved my office ver close to where I live, just because I was sick of commuting across town each day. To be honest, I found I need that drive to put some distance between me and work, other wise I arrive home still full of stress.

Teleworking is great though - one half of my business all met each other for the first time on Tuesday and we've been working together for three years. I'm seriously questioning whether or not I actually need a "workplace".
