Sounds to me like it's been barred. Which would suggest you've bought a pinched phone

unlocked = type a code in so that the phone is not locked to one network
unbarred = not possible AFAIK.

(although you used to be able to change the unchangeable IMEU on Nokias )

Sorry, misread lock/block.

But I suspect it has been barred.

I'm afraid I don't know... maybe there is somebody on PH who works in the mobile trade?

If you paid by paypal, log a complaint with them and also with Ebay. Contact the seller - ebay will give you his address and ask for a refund.

Contact Vodafone CS and ask them.

Just found these pages :

www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=20006
www.unlockme.co.uk/

Basically, nowt you can do except change your IMEI if you can find a way - which is apparently illegal and punishable by up to 5 years porridge

Personally, I would find out if it is on The List by ringing Voda or something, and if it is using paypal/ebay to try and get money back, or even calling your credit card company if you used that to pay...

How to Check If Your Phone is Blacklisted!!
Different networks blacklist handsets in different ways:

Vodafone & T-Mobile
If you place an active Vodafone or T-Mobile sim into a blacklisted handset, the phone will appear to function perfectly UNTIL you try to make an outgoing call. When you try to call out from the handset you will hear a sequence of beeps and then the call will be dropped!!

Sound familiar?

Give me the IMEI (by email) and I'll check the list tomorrow at work for you. There is a way you can get round your 'issue'...

Probably no help to you but the best thing I ever did with my SE P900 was to dump it for an SPV C500 - far better phone (and a free upgrade on orange)

I would recommend just getting your money back or failing that bin the phone and eat the loss.

Changing the IMEI is illegal and if you want to risk it then do so at your peril - it might be unlikely that you will be "caught" but you can kiss goodbye to getting security clearance and a shedload of different jobs with any sort of conviction. Also IMEI reprogramming might be considered to be an offence involving dishonesty due to the fact it inevitably involves handling stolen goods.

edit: You didn't actually explain your problem though, it might be something simple of course, does another SIM from the same network work in it?
