It's only a small hole!
Discussion
2 days after making the decision to invest in a new HD plasma instead of a new bathroom suite, the floorboards in the bathroom gave way to reveal a hole about a foot long and about one and a half floor boards wide.
Now, I'm a bit wet behind the ears when it comes to looking after this sort of thing, so what type of tradesmen will I need to get in to help me put a quote together to send to my insurance company.
There doesn't appear to be any damp on the ceiling below, the floor board is rotten through and the skirting board and door frame are very damp as well.
ps: on the M4 Jct 5 if there are any buildery types on here!!

Nice piece of flooring grade chipboard should patch it up nicely. however, you need to strip back anything that's in the way to make sure you're repairing the problem fully. I had a similar problem of a leak under a bath, which only came to light when water started dripping through the ceiling below. i had to remove the bath, cut out all the damaged floor, even to the extent of replacing a bit of floor under a stud wall. but it's luvverly now!
I'd leave the hole there for a few weeks. I'd also pull the neighbouring ones up, and investigate the condition of the joists, and any plasterwork below.
Once you're satisfied that its all ok (test the condition of the wood with a screwdriver, if it sinks easily into the wood it needs replacing), get a replacement floorboard and screw it in place.

My cousin just had something similar although not quite gone through the floor, but they had to take down two upstairs walls and the entire floor and ceiling. My advise is to phone the ins company and let them recommend who needs to do a quote ![]()
they gave me the offer to get 2 quotes myself or let them take care of it. I fancy finding my own people.
