When we last moved house we were stitched up by the people we bought from to the tune of approx £9k. They basically sold us stuff (fixtures & fittings etc) and we negotiated it in the sale price (up'd our offer to full asking price) but when we completed and moved in we were shocked to find it all gone and in addition they had really abused the place during the two and a half months since we had last visited including ripping everything out of the garden, even kitchen cupboards. They even tried to sell us a strip of land they didn't own.

Unfortunately, we couldn't pursue them as they emigrated.

Meanwhile, we received no post for them (not a single flyer) as they obviously must have redirected but then post started coming and I accidentally opened a couple thinking they were ours. We also started to recieve a lot of calls for them which made us think perhaps there's a bit more to it. Then we heard they had returned and we have since seen them lurking around our house. I also know that a reloaction company are chasing them for a pretty big debt (company keeps approaching us) but it was for when they returned.
They are obviously giving out their old address (now ours) to people as their current address.

I don't want to contact police because they were both in the police force and I'm not being funny but I can do without getting stopped all the time and harrassed.

I'm thinking about finding out where they now live (it's somewhere local-ish) and shopping them to the companies they owe money to.

Is there likely to be any risk of debt collectors or bailiffs breaking the front door down whilst we are at work?

Should I do anything or just let it go?

Dude, I would definitely shop them to the companies they owe and to the police if you suspect some kind of fraud going on. If they were going to be leaving the country, then presumably they'd have quit their police jobs already? Either way you don't want to spend the next few years under the shadow of whatever they've been up to.

Best of luck!

as for being stopped all the time, you have rights. if it happens you have cause to make a complaint, at which point you can alert the police to the calibre of their employees.

besides which, the police dont have the ability to make your life a misery with that kind of thing, theyre far to busy hiding in bushes on motorways waiting to catch real criminals. theyre clearly not that bright, so the chances of them holding real power in 'the force' are limited.

in short, unless you bought your gaff from Harvey Keitel, i would them but good.

They did both quit the police force but I know they still have mates and I could do without repercussions wherever I go.

It may be more hassle than it's worth to steer their shite back on them.

How about you, from your PH name can I assume you have connections?
Perhaps we can do "business"

If they're willing to feck you, you should be willing to feck them. Even threaten the Police with press coverage if it's not sorted.

Or, and I know this sounds a bit Draconian, you could remove them from 'The List'. Harsh but fair.

I don't think there is any danger of debt collectors kicking the door in - I believe they have to gain peaceful entry. Also, when we have had debt collectors come to our door (rented accomodation) we have just said we aren't the people mentioned (& shown some form of ID) and they have gone away.

I think without fail every place I have lived some of the previous tennants have run away from bills etc - at the end of the day it costs everyone else money so make sure you are as co-operative as possible with the debt recovery co's

Surely you must know someone in the Police. I'm sure that the straight cops take a dim view of somneone bringing their profession into disrupute.

Thanks fluffle, that's a goo idea but they never even got on my list - not the "A" list anyway (that's the one nice folk that you're on mate)

They are however, on my "hit list"

I had some debt recovery letters for the previous occupants here a few months after I moved in - I just rang the number on the letter and explained the situ, no probs. Once they realise you personally don't owe them any money, they stop talking to you like dog **** too, which is nice.

And pursue them for the £9k

Don't be so soft - it's a lot of money. Find out where they live and sort this out.

"noodle"

I know they can't actually do anything but I can get stopped frequently and given a producer etc and that's hassle, other people who know them have warned me not to take them on as they have friends who could make life difficult. Even our neighbour had big probelms with them over damage and forced entry onto their property and they had a few problems after going to the press over it. Apparently, they were threatened without witnesses and they decided to let it drop. They were very glad to see us as their neighbours.

mate, they cant keep giving you producers without just cause. and its not much of a stretch for you to be able to show questionable judgement to the cops if it does keep happening 'i cant understand it officer, i made a complaint about some cops and now i keep getting arrested'. theyre not Shaft, so just get to it. unless you can afford not to? nope, didnt think so.

theyre relying on you to be scared off by their 'status' *spitsvenom* dont give them the satisfaction. would you let it happen to your mum? no? then why on earth would you let it happen to yourselves?

incidentally, theyre gonna find it hard to scare off your witnesses, since the witnesses are you.

A few years ago at the house I owned before I met Mrs K, I started getting letters from Ford Finance with warnings on teh outside of the envelope so I decided it must be serious and to open one and called the number for Ford and said nobody at the address by that name and there never had been and that I think they must have incorrect address. they asked for my name and thanked me and a few days later I received a demand in my name for this guys outstanding car finance!

Anyway, I was lucky enough to actually spot the registration of the car along the road and I passed the letters on to the owner who had told them he had moved.

Rather cheeky that they changed the finance agreement to reflect name instead!

Would I be breaking any laws by following them to find out where they now live. They have remained pals with one set of neighbours (all the others were glad to see the back of 'em). When they visit, I could just follow them and see where they go, perhaps take a few photos too.
