MPs get 61k???
Jesus H Christ.
That is just WRONG.
I agree. It's far too little. Thats why we get such poor quality MP's.
If it was more, the guys who can run a successful company would aspire to be MPs. As it stands, if you have a talent, you can use it in industry to make a huge amount of money.
MPs should be paid more.

indeed its wrong ...... its £61k plus several chunks of £500k in non-exec fees and share options ( that don't get disclosed ) , plus a few £ million in after dinner speech fees and/or memoire royalties ....... none of which they would have earned if they weren't MP's or ministers.
It must be tough surviving on such a meagre salary.
edit : a pre-requisite for being an MP should be some experience working in "real world" businesses or industry (rather than academia , local govt. and politics )
...... that may prevent many of the highly educated but totally inexperienced academic-theorising-diatribing-head-up-their-own-arse but ultimately useless c^nts from running the country.

You are joking, right?
They are all a bunch of prevaricating cnuts who are totally incapable of answering a question with a straight answer, and cannot make a decision without guidance.
They should be paid absolutely nothing. That way you get people who genuinely want to make a difference rather than bloody economics graduates who can't get a job anywhere else.

Yes, thats why they can afford £1m central london homes, 3 holidays a year and just about every other luxury they want. And they say that its all done with fairness and without any conflicts of interest.... which of course is complete bollox as they are all interested in lining their own pockets and creating a pension fund that even the Duke of Westminster would be proud of....
Scumbags the lot of 'em.

Nothing like that. Hague was the only one who came close last year, earned about £1 million all up.
Your average MP would struggle to get any non exec directorships and anything more than modest fees for speaking.
I was on the board of a plc. We had an ex tory minister (rather a well known one) who was still an MP on as a non exec. Paid him less than 20k and when he published his autobiog it was a vanity publishing job.
The only ones who can command really big fees and sell books are the heavy hitters like Hague or the awkward squad like the late Tony Banks.

Indeed, imagine the health service, you could give it about 8 different brand names from an excitingly latino brand for young thrusting types to a reliable, if a little staid, eastern european brand for working class family men, all underpinned by exactly the same hospitals, doctors and nurses.

The old system was better. A chap entered the house out of a sense of duty, not for what he could get out of it. A chap had made his money, now it was his turn to put something back, by serving his country.
The these fkin socialists came along and everything changed.
, and further down the line on the gravy train, we have our Euro MPs, who 'seem' to be accountable to no-one!Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
