By some quirk of Paypal I seem to have had an ebay purchase sent to my old address (why I don't know, has worked fine for this address for the past 2 years), so this morning I went round to my old block of flats.

Plenty of people in, 5 or 6 cars outside. In 15 minutes of ringing buzzers, I get :

1. Indian woman who says she can't understand what I'm saying (but rather than asking me to repeat myself or coming down to find out what I want, just ignores me)
2. Other woman who buzzes the lock for about a quarter of a second and then ignores me.
3. Indian woman again telling me that I am "extremely bad mannered".

At no time was I anything other than a paragon of politeness, and I was extremely apologetic.

I have lost count of the number of times over my last 6 years of living in flats when I have gone to the front door to let somebody in or to help them out. What goes around obviously does not come around

So I have an ebay seller who sent to the wrong address despite the right one being on all the ebay stuff, and the wrong one hidden at the bottom of the paypal receipt (when it was too late), and some git at my old address who has pinched my purchase.

Stay out of my way today....

Without jokes, Can you not go back early doors and use the tradesman entrance, or about 8am when people are leaving for work and just enter as they leave?

You're in Beckenham aren't you? I used to deliver a bit there when I was younger, (well grew up there! )and I know how annoying it is as the town is basically either big houses, or flats, with very little in between.

Carol singers, trick or treat, jehovah's witnesses, penny for the guy, Avon, kleeneze lady, new facias or guttering sir, can I walk your dog mister, clean your car mister, change your leccy supplier to us please mister, the list goes on...

Most people who knock at my door after 9am (i.e. it ain't Pat delivering the mail) don't get an answer as undoubtably they'll be trying to fleece me and in this day and age most people call you before visiting.

Couple this to a poor grasp of the English language, desire to relax in one's own home without the intrusion of the outside world may go someway to explaining the response you got.

Take solice, breath and relax. Maybe a nice curry later.

Have they all got individual post boxes?

10 minutes work to make up some A5 flyers asking politely for someone to contact you if they've taken your parcel in & pop them in their post boxes.

It might be sat on Mrs Miggins' table - it's just that she doesn't know how to get hold of you... Perhaps. If you're lucky...

Had the same thing happen to me, had receipt from the shop with correct address on, turned up at my old house 70 miles away. Now having debate with seller why this happened. I think its because some of them are using a stage prior to going to paypal that messes something up.

Thing is, most people just didn't answer the buzzer in the first place.

I know all about not liking answering the door, but I do it when it happens here!

I did leave a note for the flat, will call round later when people are home from work.

My address WAS up to date in paypal, it worked 10 days ago when ordering something! Somehow suddenly my old address became my primary address - explain that!!

I ignore the buzzer after about 8pm if I'm not expecting anyone, luckily I dont get home until 7pm , no buzzer though so I have to walk ALL the way downstairs to open the door, which to be fair I have done to let former residents collect their mail (actually only one person ever bothers to do it).

If you really want to get in, figure out whose address it is and bluff your way in with some plausible sounding excuse like checking the wiring or better yet if you want someone to open the door says you have a package for them. get a big cardboard box, fill it with garbage and seal it, pretend (or eve nmake it) heavy and take it to their flat, them say you'll let yourself out and you can check your mail if it's a communal box. Apologies are an annoyance for most people today, use their greedy selfishness against them.

If its a package that you know has gone to a wrong adress them pretend you are another ebay package accidently gone to the wrong address and when the thief comes down thinking she or he has got another great score you can confront him, make sure you get inside the door first though, preferably into the apartment (invited of course). Chances are they are a wimp like most people and will hand it over if you ask in an calm tone with a hint of menace. Better if you look big/tall and or have a friend who is big tall (which is why a larger fake package is a better bet). they can't really report it to the police since they were the thief in the first place

Just had a call from a lovely young lady who lives in my old flat, saying nothing had turned up but she would give me a call if it did

There are some decent people out there!

Now wondering why the seller hasn't sent it...

Opeining someone else mail is an offence, if it is incorrectly addressed, if it is incorrectly named, tough, that's from my freindly postie after someone else opened my new wage structure from work...My work had addressed the info wrongly, my name, wrong addy, nothing I could do.
