Mentioned on the review of sunday papers this morning on R4. ID card refuseniks to get fined:
A quick visit to a dusty govt website later:
www.identitycards.gov.uk/library/05-12-05_DRAFT_Code_of_Practice.pdf

Section 6: Compulsory Registration
2.2 Section 6(4)(a) Failure to comply with an obligation to register imposed by
way of an order made under section 6: maximum penalty £2,500.

As usual the Govt will wash it's hands of direct responsibility by devolving it onto local councils. It didn't work with the poll tax and it won't work with this.

They work for us, but now they want to remove our liberty and put a tax on liberty and life.

On the Kennedy Memorial in Runnymede meadow it says:

"Let every National know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend or oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and success of liberty"

Maybe we should meet en masse at the kennedy memorial to do to the Govt what the barons did to King John in 1215 at the same spot; Make them respect our liberty!

I assume that once again, the benefit scroungers will have theirs subsidised by the tax payers - no matter, the majority won't care, as long as they are intravenously drip fed Big Brother/X-Factor et al, they are happy, and will be willingly oblivious to underhand schemes of liberty taking like this, until its too late – sad thing is, they still won’t care, believing the poorly camouflaged propaganda they hear in the news updates, in-between their favourite TV programs. On the whole, we deserve all we get! The majority who dont think vastly outnumber the minority that can see whats happening, we're fooked!

I sure I remember when they first floated the ID card proposal that they said it would be non-compulsory.

and then when they realised how much opposition there is to it, and that there would be such a low take-up, they decided to make it complusory.
What a surprise! politicians lying again

Of course, if you refuse to give them your details, and refuse to pay the fine, you'll be arrested, and they'll take a dna sample.

I'm sick of being treated as a suspect all the time by the people I employ to administrate the country's affairs of state.

It's better to sabotage the process - there are going to be stringent rules on facial expressions in photographs... so this is going to cause me rather problem. Whenever I am infront of a camera I develop this involuntary facial twitch... it's terrible it is. I can't help it. Such a shame really, there aren't any good photos of me around because of it.

They can kiss my sweet cheeks then.

I've just emailed my MP (lab: Leeds NW) to let him know.

It gets worse:

2.5 Section 6(6) Further failures to register: maximum penalty £2,500. A person
on whom a penalty has already been imposed under section 6(4) for failing to
comply with an obligation to register is liable to a further penalty on any
subsequent occasion on which he fails to comply with a notice given by the
Secretary of State requiring him to apply to be entered on the Register within a
specified period.

They have claimed so far that ID cards will not be compulsory. Now the truth comes out.

"For many UK citizens the identity card will be issued as passports come up for renewal or for first time applications. The Home Office, the UKPS and other government departments will now start to lay the foundations for the scheme"
www.ukpa.gov.uk/identity.asp

So if you refuse to register, you'll not get a renewed passport, and so lose your right to travel to get away from this shit.

I should have titled this 'The real Big Brother thread'

Admirable sentiments, there's hope for this country yet.
