Ultima Tachometer

Does anyone have the correct settings for the Ultima Tachometer. I know Ultima sets them at the factory, but mine seems to bounce quite a bit, and I doubt it's readings.

It shouldn't bounce very much. I've found that the Ultima supplied tach is pretty stable. Check for wiring problems or loose plugs. If that doesn't help, make sure that your wires coming back from the MSD unit are well shielded from electrical noise.

If in doubt, get an oscilloscope and check the tach input wires to the tach gauge. If that looks good, work back through the system.

Always check for good power to the tach gauge since electrical tachometers require regular +12 power to operate. They contain an electronic "integrator" that converts pulses to a pulse rate signal that is what is used to actually deflect the tach needle.

So I think I found the problem. The tachometer has two inputs, the white/black and the red/blue. One is for low level, and the other for high level. The tachometer has been erratic since day one, reading hign, and jsut not quite right. First with the Holley carb and HEI ignition, and then with the EFI running from the computer. Switched from the white/black to the red/blue and it now reads perfect?

Ultima had it wired for the white/black, but i guess this doesn't work on the efi I have.
