I assume most people are now familiar with www.milliondollarhomepage.com

After a string of TV appearances in the UK and the US (it is rumoured he paid a publicist £30k for this) he has sold them all apart from the last 1,000 pixels which he has put on eBay. The bidding is absolutely staggering with 5 days left!

This guy doesn't really need to go to uni now! Fair play to him, genius idea (just wish I'd thought of it!)

good on him really.

They'll be lots of copycat sites no doubt but it looks like a one off thing really. I read an article in which he even said as much.

I've been following Alex's site for a while now. He sounds like he's got his head screwed on. He started the idea to pay for university and now is obviously loaded. But he's not going out and buying $5k hookers or anything but he's going to keep the cash and invest it in various other business ideas.

Nevermind the cash, what an awesome experience! Big respect

One of those simple ideas you REALLY wish you'd thought of first.

I expect we'll see a lot more of him in the future.

he's done well. he hasnt paid for any of his publicity (re: the 30k rumour), but he does have a pr woman looking after his press. i dont know him personally, but he grew up with a good friend of mine and i hear he's a very smart guy, the branson type who is destined to be filthy rich. he hasnt finished this project yet but has already got plans to use this cash to make ALOT more $$$ than he has done already. hopefully we'll be hearing more about him in the near future.

Teenager sets up a website called the "MillionDollarhomePage.com"

It features a grid, of one million pixels. You can buy advertising space on this grid for $1 per pixel, the more pixels you buy the bigger your advert is. He has sold all of them now, with the last few being auctioned.

In effect he has made $1m from an extremely simple website, within a couple of months.

The only bit left is the space circled below:

That is currently selling for $152k with 5 days of the auction to go.

I don't get it

Doesn't everyone just visit the homepage and not follow any of the image links - that's what I did when I heard of the page?

Also if you paid for the $100 for a tiny link how will potential customers see you in amongst all of the other bigger images?

The advertisers seem to be getting their moneys worth in terms of extra traffic, just for the proportion of people that do click links. The site is getting over 250,000 unique visitors each day!

His hosting must cost a lot though. That's a fair amount of bandwidth every day. If that level of traffic continues for his guaranteed five years, I dare say he'll eat into his post-tax profits significantly.

His hosts have provided it free of charge due to the PR they have got out of it. I imagine traffic will soon die down on the site.
