It would seem that I am not alone in my desire to lose a few pounds after the excess of the festive season. In an effort to do just that, and get a little fitter i the process the Mrs suggested that we both take up a bit of casual tennis. (I had other forms of exercise in mind, but we're soon to be married, so I guess that is out of the question )

Now I have never really played the game, except for a few very silly knock arounds with mates, so I'm not sure what I'll need to get me/us started without spending too much.

I'm planning on just picking up a pair of rackets from flea-bay maybe, but there seem to be so many types and sizes. I just need one for myself and one for my vertically challenged (hope she's not reading this) lady, but what should I buy?

well with my limited tennis knowledge (1 summer) i learned that. i personally play much better with a shock absorber on the racket. also you cant go wrong with a bit of head (the racket i mean ).

also the balls are eveything. bad set of balls = bad preformer

I own a sports shop....

You should be able to get a couple of decent racquets in Aluminium for around £20/25 each, or Graphite for around £30/50 including headcovers, get grip size 3 or 4 for you and 2 for your misses....

No real point spending any more than that unless you are really keen.

Don't mess around with secondhand on Fleabay, not worth it.

I suggest either Wilson, Head, Dunlop or Slazenger........

Get some decent balls though, I recommend Slazenger "Wimbledon" Hi vis................

See you in a couple of years on the centre court at Wimbledon.......
