Nice pub for overnight stay in Somerset-any ideas?
Discussion
Ok
for reasons that are far too hard to explain I have to visit the folks in South Devon/west Somerset, due to ongoing family fued can't stay the night there so we are looking for a cosy pub to stay in this area
We want a nice place, big fire, decent food, cost not a huge issue.
Anyone got any ideas?

There's a pub in Colyford right by the tram crossing - my in-laws are about to move to Seaton and apparently its cosy and has good food www.pub-explorer.com/olpg/thewhitehartinn/colyford/index.htm - but does it have beds??
There's also a pub on the sea front on the Axmouth side that they say is good...
Sorry - don't know the names or if they have beds!!

How about www.travelpublishing.co.uk/HiddenInnsWestCountry/Devon/iwc20737.htm
Let me know about what you find, we may need to know

Colyford and Axmouth are both East Devon though - although for interest the pub on the Tramway is I think called The Wheel.
Edited to say I've just looked at his map!!! That's not South Devon by a long way that's East Devon!

Locally off the top of my head:-
The George at Chardstock (Axminster - Chard Road) used to be nice - not sure if they have rooms
The Ship at Axmouth - ditto
Don't go to the Seaton Heights hotel - it's really nasty. Ditto the Honiton Motel!
The Royal Lion Hotel in Lyme Regis has nice rooms and good food but is a hotel rather than a pub.
The Hare and Hounds - probably comes under Honiton - can't remember exactly what it would be called - does really nice Sunday Lunchs - is quite big so perhaps has rooms.
The difficulty you'll find in that area is that most of the pubs are pubs only rather than having B&B as well. Lots of the ones that do B&B in the Summer won't be bothering this time of year as there isn't a huge amount of trade.

Don't think The Ship in Axmouth has rooms...
The Anchor Inn, in Beer, isn't so much a 'village' pub, but isn't too bad... www.anchorinn-beer.com/
Again, most of the pubs are pubs only...but there are plenty of farm B&Bs around. I'll try and think of some others.
