Service & MOT & Waxoyl

Hi Everyone and a very Happy New Year.

As the title of my thread suggests I am in for a hammering on the wallet.
With this in mind could anyone give me their personal recommendations and email me (if they can be bothered it would be appreciated) their non-recomendations for indi's in the Bedfordshire area.
I've searched the other threads but trying to pull together info for my Triple hitter is proving tricky.
Would you recommend a specialist for the MOT or can I leave that to the local boys?
The names on the searches seem to be Leven and Austec but they are some way away. I've also heard the V8 Centre mentioned (they are a lot closer).
Any comments or help would be appreciated as its the first time its been out of my hands since it arrived and I would like to think its being well looked after.

Hi Brad,

You mentioned Austec, I used them for a recent service and full chassis prep. Despite living miles away in St Neots I was happy to take the car to them as they were the only ones I spoke with who actually fully stripped the chassis, painted and then wax-oiled it. Cost about £300 or so but from what I've seen they did a fantastic job.

Depends where you are in Bedfordshire but I thoroughly recommend Offord TVR only a few minutes from the A1.

I think they offer a collection service and also have some Saab courtesy cars - the last one I had was "not quite standard" .....!

I've been watching this thread and choosing not to comment. Sorry but it's got the better of me and I can't not say this.

Waxoiling a car at this time of year could be the worst thing to do. If you've been using the car even just to get it to the garage then your chassis will be smeared with salty grime. Waxoil will lock it in especially in the vulnerable, hard to get to places. My suggestion is that you rinse the chassis first by running a lawn sprinkler at different locations under the car for several hours. Then only take it for waxoiling on a dry day and after the chassis has had plenty of drying time.

Thats precisely the reason I mentioned Austec who strip the chassis down first of all, fully clean and re-paint it and then wax-oil. This is something any competent garage carrying out this task should do before even opening the wax-oil tin.

yes Bob I have been watching this as well but not for your reasons .Some of the prices quoted for servicing,waxoyl etc are unbelievable we must live in the wrong part of the country

I too have been watching this thread with interest!I've had a few tvr's now(4),and have always found servicing to be the most variable part of the ownership experience,thats for sure.Theres one reccomendation on here who i would not go near with a bargepole.They 'serviced' my current Griff before i bought it,and the only thing you could see had been changed was the oil and filter-this was a major service!!Air filter,plugs etc had not been changed and the coolant was pure(dirty)water.I had to put it in for another service straight after i bought it.What was most worrying was that they'd happily stamped and signed the service schedule,and had done the previous three services.Mind you,there prices are very competative

Anyway,rant over.What i really wanted to say was that i met John at the recent TMS auction,and i must say i've rarely met another more sincere and genuinely enthusiastic chap.He has an excellent reputation,and i for one will be trying him out for my next service at Prestige Performance cars A good service is always worth traveling for.

Can highly recommend the v8 centre in high wycombe .They waxoiled my car when it was serviced,very reasonable and a good job.Ask for Perry.Have had quite a lot of work done there,always very high quality and great service

I've also been watching this thread with interest. Finding the right place to service the car seems to be trickier than I'd thought. The experience Mongoose describes seems to be more common than it should be. I'd rather pay more and travel further for something you can trust, then go for the nearest/cheapest.
On the chassis front, has anyone any experience of the RT Racing treatment? Sounds like it might give a little more protection than Waxoyl...

I and friend have used and continue to use Austec. I also had the outriggers done there last year. Very happy with all aspects.

Ive used Austec and the V8 Centre, both highly recommended. I use the v8 centre in High Wycombe as they are a lot closer to me than Austec. Talk to perry - top bloke very helpful !

I used this for my V8S, very good service , they seem to know there stuff !
