One of my mates is getting married this year and as part of his present I'm looking to get a pub style sign made up for a room in his house, just a 2 foot wide sign that can be attached flush to the wall.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Ideally I want to incorporate images of both of them. I'm not sure who to approach to do it, I'm guessing many trade places would charge an absolute fortune to do it?

try a search for original art commisions

google came up with this www.artoriginals.co.uk/

also local tatooists (usually brilliant freehand artists) and signwriters (painters not vinyl) may be willing to help

I think you will find this is a two part process.

Especially if your want portrait type images.
Here's a link to a company in the USA that will put an image on brushed aluminium.
www.imagewizards.net/ It'll give you some ideas.

For a regular sign, I would look for someone under "decrorative arts" these are the people that do murals etc. and some faux stuff. Not all decorative art people will do portrait type work.
You could try going into an art store, look for adverts by painters, also ask the staff lots of artists work in art stores.
Ask to see some of their work, they expect it, no problem.

Once you you have your artwork, you would need to get it photographed (properly), then send it an English version of Image wizards.

Or you could strike it lucky and get a decorative arts person who can do the whole thing.

If you really draw a blank, mail me.

Does it need to be a specific material...?
Do you want a 'pub sign style'image or do you want a kind of 'pub sign mock-up' with a painted cetral panel, lettering, and a frame ?

I would opt for 6mm MDF in a thick wooden frame, it could be varnished but as its not going outside...

It doesn't need to be made of a specific material.

They have recently bought a house around the corner from our local pub, The Man on the Moon. Following a change of landlord at the pub we have been going round his house quite a bit in the evenings and as such his house has been renamed "The Mike on The Moon". He joked about it last night, having a sign made up saying that.

It needs to be quite smart and not look like cheap tat.
