I've decided not to go surfing today but to join the other nutters in Scarborough by going for a New Years Day swim in the sea. Obviously not wanting to look soft I've left the wetsuit at home and am going in in shorts and a t shirt.
Water temperature is currently 5-6 degrees, I've double checked, 15-20 minutes would be enough for loss of consciousness, 30-60 minutes exposure for death. I'll give it a couple of minutes then.
Hopefully I won't end up looking like this
Is anyone else doing anything similar?

It was a bit of a letdown really, I got stuck in traffic on the way down to the beach (I didn't fancy walking back up the cliffs in wet shorts!) and missed the main crowd going in, they must have run in and then straight back out again.
So I went round to the colder more windswept North Bay and ran in on my own, much to the wonderment of the assembled dog warmers who were so wrapped up they looked like they were going to the arctic.
It was braceing to say the least!
