Hey all, taken the plunge, sold my 996GT2 in favour of an Exige, the extra fun I can have on track sold it (not to mention the £55K saving!!).

I love the car to bits, but would like more power, there seem to be several upgrade kits from the Swiss, Germans and Americans out there.... Does anyone have any experience??? I'd prefer supercharging as it doesn't upset balance on the throttle. I know the Porsche tuning scene very well but not Lotus...

Oh and I did drive both a Cup 240 and a 240R but decided spending £26k on a mint low mile S2 and doing it myself would be a better route as the Lotus version is quicker, but not £20K quicker!!!!

Thanks all from a Porsche defector!

Thats a big step going from a 966GT2 to a Exige, but the Exige is much leighter and more nimble so driving the Exige can be more intence.
My car is 1350kg(Z3 M coupe S54 350hp) not that heavy weight, but I find it much to heavy and thats why I also want a car thats max around 1000kg so a Exige(even leighter) would be perfect to me and maybe(depends on sale and price) I get a Exige Cup 240 but thats got to have more power to because af almost only straights in the Netherlands

So for you when you want responsive hp you can eighter go for the new Lotus Exige GT3 supercharger set-up(289hp) but I think thats very expensive and hard to get?
Or go the 280RR way(nice name and power) thats a Twin Crew Supercharger, here is the link

www.ragnorakracing.com/catalog/item/2337807/1782090.htm#image_1

and its "only" 7.500,-dollar so around 4.300,-GBP? good price per hp I think.
And how did those 240R and 240 drove tell us about that also please.

Bemani in Switzerland were the first to come up with an aftermarket s/c kit for the Toyota engine in the 111R and Exige. Apart from their drinking habits I havn´t heard anything negative. (Probably still less than a 996 GT2...)

www.bemani.ch/english/home_en.htm

Komo-tec had a new supercharger kit at the Essen Motorshow in November. They worked together with Toyota Motorsport in Cologne for remapping the ECU to come up with an interesting kit.

www.komo-tec.com/product_info.php/products_id/400

or give Lotus Motorsport a call and ask them...

Hi
I have an Exige that is due to go to Hanger 111 (the UK fitter of Ragnorakracing products) to get an Sc.
R Racing is expecting to have kits in the UK by Feb. I know that Hanger has a bit of a queue forming
There are a few extras which will be required if you go for this kit. An Accusump to manage oil surges, an
up rated clutch is also a good. They are estimating fitting to be between 16-20 hrs. The intercooler is not
above the engine but sealed in the driver side side scoop, so no vision problems plus will fit an Elise.

I know of a reputable company looking to bring the Swiss kit in this year but they have not been given the
OK yet.
Bring on 2006 the year of the SC!

I spoke to a guy who know all about the GT3 SC apparently they have left the internals alone and just bolted on the SC, problem is every 20hrs it requires a refresh

I've spoken to Lotus and they will only work with the 240 kit for road cars currently, and even then they don't want to fit it to an exisiting car, would rather you went back to the dealer and bought a Cup 240.

Comments on the Cup240, overall a significant improvement, however, it still feels slightly breathless, smooth power delivery, nice flat torque curve, but not the thump in the back the power to weight would suggest, feels like it has been pegged back a ensure reliability and drivablility on road. If it was a £5k upgrade would be worthwhile but not worth the cost of a Cup240 over a standard car IMHO.

So the third party route seems favourable based on both cost and ultimate power. The challenge is going to be which kit... and where to get it fitted.... I must say I do like the look of the Swiss kit at the moment... is there anyone in the UK dealing with them??

Thanks for the link.... sadly the tread starts well and then falls in the American habit of talking about the technical merits of supercharger types and ignores the question of what each kit is like....

Will keep investigating but I have a feeling with my Turbo Porsche background it will be a turbo... if nothing else to be different from the factory car!

Indeed very scary when you need guns to carry around...only possible in the good? USA
though it could be come in handy for self-defence when they wanted to shoot you with a (laser)gun you can shoot back
no, realy I hate guns(for harming people at least) and other stuf, to easy and dangerous to harm people, I was in the army and shoot with many types of guns and rocket lancers...but only for practice and never realy have to use it against people only as a option in war(I was in Libanon at Unifil) so I stand for freedom on the good side.

For the money, if I was considering SC'ing any Lotus at the moment, the only people who would get my money are Maidstone Sports Cars... for a Honda Type R conversion.

Even buying an S2 Exige second hand (which is now around the 25k mark) and losing the yota lump completely in favour of an SC'd Honda (about 14k) is cheaper than the 240 cup and R. And the Maidstone kit will p*** all over either of the versions that Lotus put out all day long.

Not as far as I know but they have done many S2 Elise's and have an S2 Exige lookalike.

I doubt many people who want a Honda'd car would get a 111r or an S2 Exige as the donor mule tho

Maybe I'll be the first then.... I'll give them a call and have a chat.... does seem a bit extreme to bin a 4000 mile engine... but if it works out better than upping the power of the existing unit which looks to cost about £8K to upgrade anyway.... hum.... Hey the sports exhaust and cats on the GT2 cost £4K alone!!!!

And when you go the Honda way you coud always sell that toyota engine! its a good engine and maybe useble for other people with a elise/exige such as elise S1(those engine's don't last long?) or for someone with a S1 or 120/160hp engine upgrade to reliable toyta power?
I like the idea of a mk2 Exige with SC Type-R engine(300hp) very much...
good luck with that when you go that way

How much does the Honda Engine weigh? I'm interested to know as the Toyota engine weighs about 140kg if I remember correctly.
